Yesterday Mrs Mellone, who also has a grandson of six months, said: I have never used fertility treatment. In our family this is not unusual. Last year my cousin of 51 had a baby girl.
I only found out I was expecting triplets when I was five months pregnant. Her children from her first marriage are 23, 26 and 29.
Her second husband, 38-year-old Gerardo Montefusco and father of the triplets, said: We had wanted a child but to get three is amazing.
The mother says she did not use any fertility treatment and there is no record of it so we must believe her.
