weight loss after pregnancy uk | Blogmas 11 12 14

weight loss after pregnancy uk

Where does your mental health come on your list of things to do this month? With only 2 weeks to go before the big day (gulp!) if you are anything like me, your mental health is probably somewhere waaaaay down the list of things this Christmas.  Hang on, lets be honest.  If you are anything like me, its not even on your long list of things. I just never really think about it.  Until that is, I need to.  Last month, I was having real difficulty getting to sleep. I had list after list of things to do, things to plan, worries and thoughts all running round in my head the moment my head touched the pillow.

I had read about an app for your phone called Headspace after reading an article on how more and more people are turning to meditation in such a fast paced world.  Now, my previous experience with mediation was basically I have the concentration power of a gnat and instead of meditating I spend the time thinking how I SHOULD be meditating.

But, I decided to give it a try anyway. You download the free app to your mobile and then you listen to the app for 10 minutes per day for 10 days.  Now wait, before you start thinking of sitting crossed legged and umming and ahhhing, this is not that and there isnt any pan pipes or ocean sounds to be heard.  Its a guy who chats and tells you what to do, and basically its just about sitting still, breathing and taking time out of your day to actually be present and think about yourself.

It wasnt until I actually listened to the app I realised how little I do this.  How days go by before I even consider how I am feeling or I just take the time out to relax and just be. I wont to lie to you. Taking the time to just listen to the app was half of my battle. I was always too busy, and sitting still for 10 minutes was apparently impossible. However, I eventually got around to listen to it, and I am so so glad I did.  The night I listened to it I actually felt really relaxed and I fell into a really lovely deep sleep. Now you may call this a placebo effect, and yes, that might have been the case, but who cares! Because it worked for me and I felt all the better for it.

The app does actually have lots of science behind it, and if you want more information or to download the free take ten programme you can check that out here.  The app is something that I keep coming back to, and I guess that is a good start in recognising the importance of looking after your mind, being more mindful and, well, I guess doing a bit of meditation.  I think our lives today are so fast paced, that you can lose track of these basic thoughts and skills.  And even if the app just lets me know that actually things are OK and gives me a time-out, well, that can only be a good thing in my eyes.

I would be really interested to hear your thoughts on this.  Is this something you would try? Do you ever think about your mental health? Comments below please!

Thank you for reading and I will see you nice and relaxed tomorrow for Blogmas day 12!

pregnancy and unintentional weight loss | Blogmas 10 12 14

pregnancy and unintentional weight loss

The lovely thing about having such supportive friends and family is that as word of my blog has spread, they have all become regular readers (hi guys!).  The only bad thing about this is that when it comes to Christmas gifts, I cant share any of the presents I have bought on here as they are all going to know what I have bought them! So, with this in mind, I thought I would do a little Christmas gift guide of the products and objects I already own and love. Things that I would LOVE to receive this Christmas (if I didnt already have them), and a few choice picks of what my two and half year old daughter loves too.

So, make-up first. And no make-up collection would be complete without one of the Urban Decay palettes.  These beauties are AMAZING!!! A true classic and make up staple.  You really cant go wrong buying someone one of these if they love their make-up.  You have an option of three different palettes and each one has different shades and tones. Dont worry too much about which one to pick as they all have really gorgeous shades and it took me ages in the shop to actually pick between them.  In the end I opted for the Naked 1 palette and the colours and shadows are just beautiful.  I now could not be without it.  You can pick a palette up from Debenhams here and they are £37.  Urban Decay also have their newer smaller basics palette for £22 if you wanted something a little cheaper.

Another of my make up favourites is the Benefit World Famous Neutrals kit.  They are £23.50 each and inside you get 4 powder eye-shadows and two cream eye-shadows.  There are three different boxes to choose from: sexy eyes, glamorous eyes or nudes eyes (below).  The colours again, are just lovely and I always go back to this kit. They really are basic shades, so unlike the Naked palette you are only getting six shades in total. You do get a lovely little instruction kit as to how to apply the shades which is very handy and especially good for any novices or if you are not sure where to put which eye-shadow. You can check the kits out here.

I couldnt mention my make-up favourites and not mention the Real Techniques brushes.  If you havent heard of them before they are designed by Sam and Nic Chapman who are the gorgeous ladies from Pixiwoo. (These girls do the most amazing make up tutorials on YouTube. Go and check them out, they know their stuff!). Their brushes are my favourite brushes...ever.  They are so soft, amazing at applying make up and there isnt a loose bristle in sight!!! You can buy them singly or in sets here. And what lady wouldnt want fab make up brushes (aside from anyone who doesnt wear make-up that is!).

So onto buying for any little people in your life. Baba has more toys than she knows what to do with, but after extensive research and emptying her entire toy chest (she did that for the purpose of this blog post!), we have settled on a few of her favourites.

The three bears puzzle box is by Melissa and Doug and the box slides open to reveal a variety of different faces and outfits for each of the three bears.  Baba loves dressing up each bear and playing with the different expressions.  This is beautifully made (as are Melissa and Doug toys) and so so cute.  You can find the set here. (Also worth having a look in your nearest T K Maxx as I always seem to find Melissa and Doug toys in there!).

Next up is a book that turns into a car! Baba had been saying she wanted a toy car but there was no way she was getting a toy car to mow the dog down with.  So she got this instead! There is a story that you read and then a quick unfold and some Velcro later and viola! You have a pink auto-mobile!!! These books actually come in a range of themes and I have also seen a tractor and fire engine in the series.  Again, I found this book in T K Maxx but I have also found them online here and here.

Another favourite of my daughters is her Happy Land people set.  She spends hours playing with them and talking to them and throwing them around the place (!). This little house from the brand is a nice size (and wont take over your own house), is easily cleaned and comes with a good amount of accessories so you dont have buy the house then buy more bits to go in it.  Baba loves the little squirrel and cat that we regularly have to hunt down.  I think this makes such a lovely present. We got ours from Mother care (link here).

Baba adores books and I just couldnt do a Christmas gift guide without including her favourites.  And to be honest, there are only two names that we adore and come back to again and again.  And of course its Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. These two are geniuss.  Their books are wonderfully written, funny, and are, well just amazing.  I have read The Highway Rat over 100 times (no joke) and we still dont get bored of it.  If you dont own one of these books...seriously...you need to get one now! There are some great life lessons for us all to learn with a squash and a squeeze too (its about being grateful for what you have and includes a cow dancing a jig!).

So, thats my little gift guide and I hope it has inspired you with your Christmas shopping if you have any left or have it all left to do.  Or even if you want to treat yourself to a few new beauty bits!

Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a lovely day and see you tomorrow nice and early for a very relaxing and stress-free Blogmas day 11!

unexplained weight loss pregnancy | Blogmas 08 12 14

unexplained weight loss pregnancy

Hello and welcome to Blogmas day eight and its now officially my six month blogging anniversary!!!! Hurray! I can remember hitting that publish button for the very first time and running around the house like a mad woman when I got my first view. (I later realised that was from my own computer, so the real reader came the next day, but I still ran round the house squealing again!!). I had wanted to blog for such a long time but had just felt too scared to actually do anything about it.

I dont think I ever realised the vast amount of hard work and commitment that having a blog entails.  I also didnt realise what a huge learning curve blogging would be.  And not just from the writing and technical side.  But also learning about me.

I never realised how much I doubt, criticise and second guess myself until I started writing my blog. I worried what people would think. Would people judge me?  What if my blog was just no good?  What if my blog wasnt as cool/ amazing/ fashionable/ insert any other words here, as everyone elses?  In the early days, I really had to keep reminding myself why I was blogging in the first place.  That I am doing this for me, because I enjoy it.  And in years to come my daughter will hopefully read this and have an insight into how amazing our lives are with her in it...and what an awful model her mummy was in any of her fashion blog posts (!).

I think not only in blogging, but with life in general, it is all too easy to get swept up in what everyone is doing, comparing and judging yourself.  And I guess you have to try and remember that we are all so unique.  And hopefully thats what makes my blog unique. There isnt another me anywhere.  This is my life. The highs and lows.  All the good bits and all the flaws. A really hard thing to do is accept who you are, be OK with that, and also give yourself a break sometimes.  Whod have thought all of this self examination would arise from blogging?!!

But, with the tough bits comes the amazing buzz and reward you get when you challenge yourself.  That satisfaction when you do something that scares you.  I cannot tell you the buzz I get when people actual read and comment on something I have written. When someone I know says they have read my blog, I just cant believe it. I had also forgotten how much I truly love writing.

So I felt I couldnt let my six month blogging birthday go by without saying a huge thank you to everyone who has supported my blog, who reads, who comments.  Thank you.  Thank you to you, as you read this now. Whether this is your first time here or youve stopped by before. Thank you.  I am excited as to where this blogging adventure will take me.

See you tomorrow for Blogmas day 9!

Thank you.
