weight loss after pregnancy uk | Blogmas 11 12 14

weight loss after pregnancy uk

Where does your mental health come on your list of things to do this month? With only 2 weeks to go before the big day (gulp!) if you are anything like me, your mental health is probably somewhere waaaaay down the list of things this Christmas.  Hang on, lets be honest.  If you are anything like me, its not even on your long list of things. I just never really think about it.  Until that is, I need to.  Last month, I was having real difficulty getting to sleep. I had list after list of things to do, things to plan, worries and thoughts all running round in my head the moment my head touched the pillow.

I had read about an app for your phone called Headspace after reading an article on how more and more people are turning to meditation in such a fast paced world.  Now, my previous experience with mediation was basically I have the concentration power of a gnat and instead of meditating I spend the time thinking how I SHOULD be meditating.

But, I decided to give it a try anyway. You download the free app to your mobile and then you listen to the app for 10 minutes per day for 10 days.  Now wait, before you start thinking of sitting crossed legged and umming and ahhhing, this is not that and there isnt any pan pipes or ocean sounds to be heard.  Its a guy who chats and tells you what to do, and basically its just about sitting still, breathing and taking time out of your day to actually be present and think about yourself.

It wasnt until I actually listened to the app I realised how little I do this.  How days go by before I even consider how I am feeling or I just take the time out to relax and just be. I wont to lie to you. Taking the time to just listen to the app was half of my battle. I was always too busy, and sitting still for 10 minutes was apparently impossible. However, I eventually got around to listen to it, and I am so so glad I did.  The night I listened to it I actually felt really relaxed and I fell into a really lovely deep sleep. Now you may call this a placebo effect, and yes, that might have been the case, but who cares! Because it worked for me and I felt all the better for it.

The app does actually have lots of science behind it, and if you want more information or to download the free take ten programme you can check that out here.  The app is something that I keep coming back to, and I guess that is a good start in recognising the importance of looking after your mind, being more mindful and, well, I guess doing a bit of meditation.  I think our lives today are so fast paced, that you can lose track of these basic thoughts and skills.  And even if the app just lets me know that actually things are OK and gives me a time-out, well, that can only be a good thing in my eyes.

I would be really interested to hear your thoughts on this.  Is this something you would try? Do you ever think about your mental health? Comments below please!

Thank you for reading and I will see you nice and relaxed tomorrow for Blogmas day 12!

weight loss during pregnancy uk | Blogmas 12 12 14

weight loss during pregnancy uk

Good morning and happy 12th December! Only 12 days until Christmas! Yay!! So today was a real family affair.  Me and Baba travelled to Leek in Staffordshire this morning to meet with two of my aunties for lunch, laughter and lots of chatter.

We left Derbyshire around 10am so I could pick up my mum on the way. Heres a quick outfit of the day and, I must admit I feel no more confident about taking a decent selfie.  But hey, lets move swiftly on.

We met for food in the centre of town and Baba had alot of fun with both of her aunties.  She refused to actually eat anything at all, but instead opted to play with pennies and an envelope!!! Good times! It was such a lovely afternoon to catch up with them both as I hadnt seen them in a little while. After our bellies were full, the bitter cold didnt stop us from taking a wander around the cobbled streets, old buildings and shops.

We went into some of the antique shops in the town and found this gorgeous ring.  I ended up buying it my mum for Christmas.  Its so pretty. We both love finding one-off unusual pieces and I always wonder who owned the ring before and what is its story.  Its new story is that it now belongs to my mum and we will remember that cold but lovely day in Leek when we found it.

I also received a really special gift from my auntie.  She gave me three glass baubles that belonged to my Grandmother, Evelyn. I absolutely love them and will treasure them forever.  Its nice to think that many many Christmass ago, my grandmother hung those very baubles from her Christmas tree.  Those baubles witnessed the joy of Christmas morning, the unwrapping of presents, festive cheer and laughter and the chiming of new year bells.  They will now hang from my tree and be passed down to Baba.  I feel very honoured to have them and they make my Christmas tree complete.

Thank you so much for reading today and I hope you enjoyed my little trip to Leek!
Do you own any Christmas decorations that have been passed down through your family and mean something special? I would love to hear about them in the comments below.
Wishing you all a fantastic Friday and see in the morning for Blogmas day 13.

weight loss in pregnancy uk | Blogmas 09 12 14

weight loss in pregnancy uk

Good morning all! And Im back again for Blogmas day 9! Today has been quite a busy day, so thought Id share with you what Ive been getting up to.

This morning, Mr Bee left for his American work trip.  He actually only got back from America the other week and now hes gone again. The car picked him up at 7am and he was as quiet as a mouse so as not to disturb me or Baba.  Yeah right!  Whenever he has to get up early its like an elephant is in the bedroom.  The boy cannot be quiet! Anyway, we will miss him lots and the house is very strange without him here.

Me and Baba had breakfast and then got ready and went to town. I had a tiny bit of Christmas shopping to do and I managed to pick up the few bits I needed.  The remaining bits I am going to get online.  I have a very small window of time of when I can shop with Baba and I find that the best time to go is first thing in the morning.  This normally gives me two hours and then she wants to run riot.  She did really well today and it wasnt until the last shop she scared one of the assistants with a large shriek.

None of these of for me :-( (sob).

I also have the most painful dry hands at the moment. I dont know if its the cold, or if its because me and Baba have been going swimming twice a week over the last few weeks.  Whatever the reason, they resemble that of an old witches.  I had to pop to Boots anyway, and I picked up this Lanolips hand cream.  Ive not tried the brand before, but I have used Lanolin when I was breastfeeding and it was a miracle worker. I will let you know how I get on with it.

After our shopping trip, we came home, had lunch and then left to go to playgroup. Baba had a good run around, charged someone one million pounds for a can of peas and then did some painting. All in all a good play session!!! We then came home and went for a walk with Pablo T Dog.  It is so bitterly cold here but Baba was so snug in her pushchair she fell asleep.  She is at this stage at the moment where she says she doesnt want her usual morning nap, but then come the afternoon she is quite tired.  Ive left her in the pram and wheeled her into the garage so she can have a bit of a longer snooze and I can have a cup of tea.  (Please note she is wrapped up warm and is quite cosy in there...and I can see her too!).

Napping in the garage!

I must also admit to what Ive been eating today.  If you read my previous Blogmas post on advent calendars (you can catch up here), I have been putting treats into a box for Mr.Bee.  I found this cookies and cream spread in Tesco for his box and it is delicious!!! Whilst it is meant to be Mr Bees, mysteriously the spread is getting lower and lower (no, nothing at all to do with me).  Before he left for America Mr Bee asked me if there would be any actual spread remaining on his return.  I gave him my most disgusted look and said of course there would be, and how dare he suggest I would eat it all. Hmmmm. Maybe I need to go and buy some more!!!

So thats my day.  I will wake Baba up in a minute and go and wrap some more presents.  I have to wrap a bit at a time, as if I wrap for too long, the standard of wrapping deteriorates with every passing minute. It aint pretty!!!

Hope you are all enjoying Blogmas so far and I will see you nice and early tomorrow for more festive fun on Blogmas day 10!
