baby weight loss in utero | Blogmas 15 12 14

baby weight loss in utero

Are you counting down to Christmas? Not long to go now!! Christmas day really holds so much anticipation and excitement for us all, but sometimes I think by anticipating an event so much we can miss the moments that are happening right now, right under our noses.

I thought of this whilst training for my half marathon in October.  I collapsed on the sofa one night and was telling my husband how nervous and stressed I was.  I explained that if I could just get the half marathon out of the way then I would be able to relax and I wouldnt feel so worried.  A few days after I had completed the half-marathon I sat on the sofa once again and told my husband how if I could just get something else done that was on my mind then I wouldnt feel so stressed.  It wasnt until he reminded me that actually we had already had a very similar conversation, that I realised I spend alot of my time unknowingly wishing time away. That I anticipate future moments and I always anticipate a calmer and less stressed me, when in actual fact, I am always worrying about something or another.

I excitedly anticipate nights out.  I daydream of having more money and becoming an international blogging sensation (hey, you gotta have a dream).  And dont we all daydream and think if only we had a bigger house/more money/a smaller waist/more children/ insert wishful thinking here, our lives would be perfect and we would be happier. But I bet if I gave you all of those things right now, given a couple of hours you would have a new list of things to anticipate, wish for and worry about.

I am certainly not saying that anticipation and looking forward is a bad thing.  I just think sometimes we get caught up in that anticipation and we sometimes lose the enjoyment of the moment we are actually in.  Sometimes it isnt until time has passed that we look back and realise how wonderful that moment actually was.

For some reason now Im a mum, I have this realisation that floats about in the back of my brain that life is so so precious.  Im afraid I dont have all the answers (obviously), and this realisation to enjoy the moment is sometimes only fleeting.  I find I cant keep hold of it.  One minute I have the thought of how wonderful this life is and just being present in the moment, and then the next Im grumpy and wishing to be tucked up in bed with my pjs on.

As I said, I do not have the answers.  But I am trying to find that balance of anticipation and being present.  This moment right here right now, is just as important as the moment that I am waiting for. And today, the 15th December is just as important as the 25th December (albeit with less presents), and today I am going to do my very best to enjoy it.

post pregnancy weight loss uk

Todays post was meant to be a very different post indeed.  But I guess, sometimes, or maybe alot of the time, things really dont go the way you had hoped or planned, and you have to just go with it. Todays original post was going to be about me doing something for someone else. An act of kindness that might make me nervous, a bit sick and take me completely out of my comfort zone, but at the same time would make a difference to someone, somewhere.  I decided I was going to donate blood.

And heres the thing.  Once this idea had popped into my head last week, after finding my local donation session and time, it was all I could think about. I was so so nervous! And it was still a week away! The night I had decided what I was going to do, I couldnt sleep! I told myself to get a grip, and I tried to concentrate on that end feeling of satisfaction (and maybe relief), when I had actually given blood. And did you know that donating blood can save up to three lives? Wow. What better Christmas present to give.

This morning, I felt sick.  You know that nervous feeling? Butterflies in the stomach?  That was me times 10. They tell you to make sure you are hydrated before the donation, so I drank a gallon of juice at lunch. I had even given up a chocolate baileys the night before so my blood would be in tip-top condition!! It took me ages to get ready too.  I wanted something that was warm, but was also cool in case I got faint.  It also had to have easy access to my veins. You could say maybe white wasnt the best colour, but I had every faith in the nurses that the blood would be kept to where it was supposed to be! I opted for a mistletoe jumper (may as well look festive!)

and a very comfortable cotton bunny t-shirt underneath. I am willing to bet no-one else has an outfit of the day for a blood donation!!!

Me and my husband argued as we parked the car (so far so good), as he was adamant he could park outside the venue, when in actual fact you couldnt (like Id already told him).  After re-parking the car, we entered the donation centre.  Eeek! This was it. Or not.  At the desk the nurse informed me they were too busy to take my blood as the session was already full.  I think I looked liked I was going to cry (which is probably a bit odd when someone tells you you cant give blood). But you know when you psyche yourself up for something so much, then all your thoughts and plans go right out the window.  I envied the people having their blood taken!!! My husband stopped me from pulling someone off the donation couch and we quickly exited (OK, not quite, but I am not over-exaggerating my disappointment!). Even Baba was disappointed as after a whole 10 minutes of conversation about what mummy was doing, she only remembered the bit about biscuits, and she couldnt wait to donate!

And I guess, I could take that as a sign that its not meant to be. That maybe I should forget donation.  I mean, its easy enough to do. I havent done it for the last 32 years, so what difference will another few years make.  But I guess thats the thing isnt it? Thats why the blood service needs blood.  Because people are too busy, too nervous, too scared to do it.  But with you, blog readers as my witnesses, I am going to go again and make my donation in January.  This time, I will make an appointment so I cant be turned away.  I will share with you my nervousness, my fears, and I will tell you what it is exactly like, in the hope, that maybe if just one other person reads this and goes and donates too, then that will just be unbelievable.

And that concludes todays blog.  My lovely husband took me and Baba out for a brownie hot chocolate and babycino to cheer me up (after I had ran to the toilet - wish I hadnt drank quite so much juice!!). And as soon as I got home I put on my comfy festive pjs. (Dont pretend you dont love them!!). :-)

I am now off to have that chocolate baileys that I skipped on last night. But I would love to know your thoughts on blood donation. Have you ever donated? Would you do it? Could I inspire you with my story? Comments below please, and part two of this story to come in January 2015!

Thank you for reading and see you tomorrow for Blogmas day 18!

pregnancy weight loss underweight | Blogmas 18 12 14

pregnancy weight loss underweight

Happy Blogmas day 18 everyone! And today I thought I would talk about my facial skin care routine and what I use. I have found that as I have got older my skin has changed quite considerably and products that once suited my skin now dont. Last Christmas, I found I was having breakouts and my skin just didnt look that great. My husband bought me the Liz Earle essentials try me kit and since then, I have used nothing else.

If you dont know the range, Liz Earle is a Great British brand that uses a range of natural ingredients, doesnt test on animals and you really get the feel that the company appreciates its customers.  If you order on-line you get a signed card as to who packed it for you and they do the most beautiful wrapping! A service you dont get with alot of other brands.

But onto the products themselves! My skin completely changed after using these products and I cant recommend them enough.  The hot cleanser is in the press alot and you may have already heard about it. You apply a blob of cream to your hands then gently work it into your skin.  It begins to dissolve and break down any make-up.  You then take one of the Liz Earle muslin cloths (which comes with the cleanser) and run it under hand hot water.  You then gently wipe the cloth over your face and your make up just disappears.  Its also so lovely having a nice warm flannel over your skin.  I used to dread taking my make up off at night because it was such a chore, but with this, I can honestly say it doesnt feel like a chore at all.  I also cant believe how thoroughly cleansed my skin feels afterwards.

The toner is lovely too, and you have a choice of moisturiser for either combination or dry skin.  I find it is the perfect base for my make up. As I said, I have never looked back from having the trial set last Christmas. Whilst the skincare is a little bit more expensive than what I used to buy, it is so so worth it for how my skin looks and feels now.

There are often offers and deals on Liz Earles website which you can visit here. And you can pick up the trial essentials kit for £23 here which includes the cleanser, toner, moisturiser, an eye lotion and also muslin cloth. The set makes a great gift for someone or even yourself if you fancy giving the brand a go but dont want to buy the full sized products.

Have you ever tried this brand? What facial skincare do you use?

Thanks for reading and see you tomorrow for Blogmas day 19.
