Pregnancy Over 40 Is Possible Even With High FSH
Many women over 40 who want to conceive "live and die" by their FSH numbers. Fertility doctors frequently recommend donor eggs if women have an FSH over 10.When I ran an infertility support group, there were some women there who were told they needed to consider donor eggs (interesting to note, all of these women were under 40). Two of the women who were told to consider donor eggs got pregnant naturally (one got pregnant twice naturally). As you can see, monitoring FSH is not an exact science. The number can fluctuate and women do get pregnant even with high FSH. Sometimes, high FSH can actually make women more fertile because their bodys FSH rises which causes them to make even more follicles than normal. I actually know a woman who conceived (and carried to term) triplets naturally at the age of 45. This happened long before fertility treatments were the norm, but I imagine that her FSH was high causing her to ovulate 3 eggs at once since they are fraternal.
