pregnancy weight loss first trimester | INSIDE INFERTILITY YOUR BODY IS STILL YOURS

pregnancy weight loss first trimester

Fertility Treatments Over 40 Or Any Age, One Womans Perspective

I frequently write about my experience with fertility treatments and how I felt like I was losing control.   It seems like I just turned my body over to the doctors and other health professionals rather than making this my journey to conceive.  In retrospect, it wasnt until I attracted my baby into my life that I got pregnant.  Here is an essay from Amelia Jones which is very insightful.  Read more:

SEE ALSO: EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE AND FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)

If we allow our bodies to be instrumentalized as purely reproductive sites
rather than asserted as aspects of ourselves in a fully intersubjective relationship with the doctors we turn to for help, we are allowing our physical body to be separated from our emotional/mental self in the most dangerous process of commodifying human life. This is a process that ultimately leads to the horrors of such cases as the recent suit brought by a divorcee in order to claim possession of embryos developed from donor eggs fertilized by her ex-husband’s sperm. Those who have infertility problems must recognize at every step our participation in this commodification and continually work to keep our bodies fully attached to our minds.

is weight loss okay during pregnancy | Pick your battles

is weight loss okay during pregnancy

Discipline... Perhaps with our oldest we focused too much on discipline. Sometimes, I really feel that way. That we expected too much, that we wanted him to behave more than was age appropriate, that we were too strict. I think that dads have a tendency to do that, but I really think I put a lot of expectations on him as well. The past couple weeks, I remembered a few specific times where I wish I had cut him a break. And then there are other times where I see his behavior now and I think, "Man, all that hard work has paid off." He is respectful; he is working on his table manners. He follows instructions (for the most part). And he knows that we are serious when we tell him yes or no.

I feel that with the toddlers, we let a lot of things go. The other night O was throwing a tennis ball in our living room. I cannot stand things being thrown in the house. It absolutely drives me crazy. I especially do not want things thrown near our television or lamps or other various electronics. No, no, no, no. My husband and I were distracted with the other boys when O started this, so we didnt notice until he had been throwing for a few minutes. I tell him, "We dont throw. Put it away!" He picks the ball up, smiles, and throws it again. Hubby, who was sitting on the floor, reaches over and points to the dog toy basket. "Can you put the ball away, O?" O shakes his head no and throws the ball again. I count, "Put it away, O. 1... 2... 3..." While I count, he stands with a goofy smile on his face, waits until I get to three, then throws the ball. I stand up and reach to take the ball from him. He dashes to the ball and runs out of my reach. He races over to a resuable handle bag that has for some reason taken residence by the side of our couch and tosses the ball in. I want to take the ball from him (you disobey, you dont get fun things), but Hubby says, "Good job, O." Case closed. Hubby leaves the room to take care of C, who is having difficulties, while O drapes the handle bag over his arm, takes the ball out, and resumes throwing. I take the ball from him and set it up high on a bookcase. O chases after me and starts holding his breath. Later I tell Hubby that we probably should have taken the ball from O in the first place and he agrees, adding, "I heard C screaming in the other room and wasnt really thinking about what to do with O." Exactly my problem.

The other night I was giving O his nebulizer treatment. D was watching his Super Hero Squad on Netflix, snuggled up under a blanket in the corner of the couch. C saunters in as only C can saunter in, surveys the room and decides he wants to curl up next to D, harmless enough. No, he turns his body and starts kicking his toddler legs as hard as he can on his unsuspecting older brother. D tells C to stop and scoots away from him. C follows. I, of course, am telling C to stop. I really think he knew I was tethered down with this nebulizer treatment and thought he could get away with it. I tell D to come sit next to me. C then jumps down from the couch, picks up one of the dog toys, and starts hitting D with it while D is sitting next to me. Why? I dont know. I reach for C and tell him sternly, "No, sir!" He lunges out of my reach and takes off giggling across the room. I turn off the nebulizer and do a time out with C.

Grrrr. Sometimes with them, I really feel like I have some things down. I take these logistic challenges and make it work. But figuring out how to enforce our house rules is quickly getting out of control. I am consistent with some things (do not play in the Tupperware cabinet) and confusing on others (dont do that...except when Im too busy to come stop you). And giving toddlers time outs is so time consuming! They dont understand the process and completely forget why you are even giving them a time out. They dont connect sitting on the steps with throwing the train at his brothers head, which makes me feel like that it is totally pointless. We do a lot of distraction tactics ("Can you find the ball?") and taking away problematic toys ("If you cant play with trains without throwing them, then you dont get to play with trains"). Sometimes I feel like these really work and let them know that we do not continue with bad behavior. Other times I feel like we are glossing over the problem.

I recently read Bringing Up Bebe by Pamela Druckerman and one of the points in the book was building a "frame." You have a frame of behavior that doesnt change, rules that dont bend, behavior that you expect, but within that frame you are lenient. I do feel like we have a frame of behavior we expect from the boys and that we are lenient on the other things. As my mom always tells me, I need to pick my battles. But it feels like that middle stuff is just getting crazy! What is the frame of behavior for two toddlers screaming bloody murder over one locomotive at the train table? Take the locomotive away? And when they move on from the train table to arguing over who goes down the slide first? And then their older brother starts playing blocks that they immediately go to throw and knock over? And then one of the toddlers throws himself on the floor in a temper tantrum and the other takes off running? And their older brother is mad because his brothers took his blocks?

I dont want to regulate their play every time they play. I dont want to sit on the sunroom floor every time they play out there. I think they are old enough to start listening. I think they need to learn not to climb on the kitchen table and not to hit each other with toys. Sometimes it feels like they spend all their time banging against the frame of behavior we have set for them instead of enjoying the freedom they have inside the frame.

weight loss during pregnancy forum | Make your own Disney shirts

weight loss during pregnancy forum

My sisters can tell you that I am the least crafty in this family, so I am pretty proud of my latest project. We have a trip to Disney coming up. I want the boys in matching shirts everyday that we are there, mostly to have an easier time keeping an eye on everyone and also because it will be adorable. We have already spent a fair amount at Del Sol buying the boys matching Spiderman and Buzz Lightyear changing color shirts. Shirts at the Disney store are about $12.95 each ($38.85 total for 3 not including shipping and handling), though they do have sales. I do not have a local Disney store to pop into so Ive been watching the shirts online and have been frustrated that many of the sales shirts do not still have sizing for 2 size 2 shirts (or 2T/3T) and 1 size 6 boys shirt, all matching. So I took matters into my own hands: I crafted!

I went to Target and browsed the toddlers and boys t-shirt department. I found white shirts in both departments and neon stripey gray shirts too. They were all on sale. The boys size short sleeve shirts were $5 each ($10 total for 2) and the toddlers long sleeve shirts were $4 each ($16 total for 4). Then I went to Wal Mart and bought Cars fabric, full price, and black fabric from the scrap/clearance bin. I paid $3.74 total for all the fabric. I also had to buy Heat n Bond Ultrahold (an iron on adhesive), which was about $5 for 1 yard (I dont remember the exact price). I still have most of the yard left from the 6 pieces of fabric I ironed on, so I plan on using that at a later time. Total for materials: $34.74, giving me 6 completed shirts plus leftover fabric and leftover iron on adhesive.

This probably is not an earth shattering idea for my crafty blog readers, but, as I said, Im not crafty, so this was pretty big stuff for me. :)

The neon stripey gray shirts
Im a visual person, so I actually had to cut out the printed off image and lay it on the shirt to make sure I liked it.
This is a Googled image of an applique Mickey.
For the toddlers shirts I printed off a 4x4 Mickey Mouse (adjusting the size on my computer).
For the boys size shirt, I printed of a 6x6 Mickey Mouse (picture above this one).
I then cut out the three Mickeys. I did not put the Heat n Bond on the back of the Mickeys first because I want to put a stitch around the edges of the Mickeys. I did use double sided tape to tape the printed off Mickey pattern to my fabric, making it easier to cut out my exact shape.
This is the Cars fabric that I bought at Wal Mart. I then put away this project for about a week before my neighbor reminded me that I really needed to finish this before we go to Disney.
I roughly cut out 3 Lightning McQueens and ironed on the Heat n Bond.
I traced the Mickeys on the Heat n Bond and then cut out their shapes.
This is a picture of the back of the cut out Lightning McQueens and the Mickeys with Heat n Bond applied. I did not put Heat n Bond all the way to the edges of the Mickeys because I bought Heat n Bond Ultrahold which says "Do not sew!" really big on the packaging and I want the edges sewn on... so this is how I solved that problem (apparently I should have bought Heat n Bond Lite if I wanted to sew it). Now the edges can be sewn.
I started with the toddlers shirts. First I peeled off the back of Heat n Bond before measuring where to iron on the Lightning McQueens.
I used the ruler on the side of my husbands level to make sure the Lightning McQueens were ironed on at the same spot for the toddlers shirts. I put the bottom of the Lightning McQueens just above the arm pits of the shirt, which put them about 2.5" down from the neck of the shirt.
For the boys size shirt, I just made sure the Lightning McQueen was centered. I placed him just above the arm pit of the shirt as well.
The completed Lightning McQueen shirts.
These Mickey shirts were even easier. I used the striped to help line up the Mickeys and just made sure they were centered on the shirts. I measured the toddlers shirts at the same time again, since it would be most obvious if these shirts werent uniform.
And I did the same thing with the boys size shirt, using the lines to help place the Mickey and making sure it was centered.
The mostly completed Mickey shirts. Now Im sending them over to my neighbors house to have black stitches put around the edges of the Mickeys.
The Mickey shirts are definitely my favorite. With the neon stripes, they will also be the easiest to spot in the park. I have bright stripey shorts that I am going to have the boys wear the day they wear the Lightning McQueen shirts, making the outfit pop a little more. My husband is most pleased with the price of this whole project, 2 days of matching shirts for the price of one. :)

baby weight loss journey | DETOXIFY YOUR DIET AND ENVIRONMENT FOR FERTILITY

baby weight loss journey

Getting Pregnant Naturally May Be Possible Over 40

I have a firm belief belief that couples should look into natural options before starting expensive and sometimes dangerous fertility procedures.  I continually regret jumping into IVF treatments since I eventually got pregnant naturally well over the age of 40 but only after exhausting an exorbitant amount of money and emotional energy.
Among things mentioned in the article below, there are things you can do to improve egg quality.

In Women Over 40, IVF May Not Address The Root Cause Of Infertility

I also like the fact that Dr. Mercola (and Iva Keene in this article) states that IVF doesnt address the root cause of infertility.  There are some suggestions to decrease your exposure not only to toxins and environmental estrogens, but also to avoid things that you may be allergic to.

Read more:

Dairy products account on average for 60-70 percent of estrogens consumed. Humans consume milk from cows in the second half of pregnancy when cows estrogen levels are high. We usually associate dairy and drinking milk with calcium, and never think about what else we may be consuming along with the calcium (and dairy, by the way is not the best source of calcium). Here is a list of hormones that have been found in cows milk:
  • Prolactin
  • Somatostatin
  • Melatonin
  • Oxytocin
  • Growth hormone
  • Lutenizing releasing hormone
  • Thyroid stimulating hormone
  • Estrogens
  • Progesterone
  • Insulin
  • Corticosteroids and many more

gd pregnancy weight loss | HOW SUNLIGHT CAN HELP FERTILITY

gd pregnancy weight loss

Sunlight and Ovulation

Getting enough sunlight can be a critical piece of maximizing your fertility.  The reason is sunlight can promote ovulation.  Supposedly, one reason why many people who go on vacation get pregnant is they’re finally outdoors long enough to get some sunlight.    Now, I’m not talking about staying outside all day, just maybe one hour per day.   You really do feel better when you get outside for a while – especially if you’ve been a workaholic, you may have forgotten what it’s like to soak in the fresh air.  I always visualized the sun ripening my eggs.  If you spend most of your day cooped up in an office, spend your lunch hour outside or take a walk on your breaks.  After I quit my job I would designate an hour every morning as my outdoor time.

SEE ALSO: YOUR ENVIRONMENT AND FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)

Image result for free sun clipart Fortunately, I live in an area where the sun shines daily, but if you don’t, you may have to get out there when the opportunity arises.  For the maximum effect, make sure the sunlight actually hits your eyes.  The full spectrum light provided from the sun is important to maintain normal circadian rhythms and to re-set your body clock.  Sunlight helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle which will help with melatonin production.  If weather permits, let the sun hit your arms and legs for the first 20 minutes to absorb vitamin D.

Also of note is the findings of one study on light and women’s ovulation which reported:   “morning exposure to bright light in the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle stimulates the secretion of hypophyseal reproductive hormones, promotes ovary follicle growth, and increases ovulation rates in women with slightly lengthened menstrual cycles. This might be a promising method to overcome infertility.”[1]  Although this study was done with artificial light, it seems that light has a relationship to balancing reproductive hormones.

weight loss in pregnancy 2nd trimester | SLEEP AND FERTILITY

weight loss in pregnancy 2nd trimester

Ive written before about how important it is to get your required sleep if youre trying to conceive. Here is an article from Psychology Today that talks about some of the reasons why sleep is so important, especially if youve tried everything else:

SEE ALSO: STRESS, INFERTILITY AND MISCARRIAGE (getpregnantover40.com)

From the article:

• Missing your required number of sleep hours a night can impact your ability to conceive.
• The average woman (30 to 60 years old) gets only 6 hours 41 minutes of sleep during the work week, according to the National Sleep Foundation, when she really needs 7 to 9 hours.
• Sleep has a powerful influence on the bodys hormonal system, which controls a womans cycle and regulates ovulation.
• Too little sleep leads to low leptin levels, the hormone responsible for appetite and which can impact ovulation.
• Insomniacs have a significantly higher level of the stress hormones cortisol and adrenocorticotropic, both of which can suppress a healthy fertility cycle.

pregnancy weight loss journey | GETTING PREGNANT WITH HIGH FSH

pregnancy weight loss journey

Pregnancy Over 40 Is Possible Even With High FSH

Many women over 40 who want to conceive "live and die" by their FSH numbers.  Fertility doctors frequently recommend donor eggs if women have an FSH over 10.
When I ran an infertility support group, there were some women there who were told they needed to consider donor eggs (interesting to note, all of these women were under 40).  Two of the women who were told to consider donor eggs got pregnant naturally (one got pregnant twice naturally).  As you can see, monitoring FSH is not an exact science.  The number can fluctuate and women do get pregnant even with high FSH.  Sometimes, high FSH can actually make women more fertile because their bodys FSH rises which causes them to make even more follicles than normal.  I actually know a woman who conceived (and carried to term) triplets naturally at the age of 45.  This happened long before fertility treatments were the norm, but I imagine that her FSH was high causing her to ovulate 3 eggs at once since they are fraternal.

baby weight loss success stories | Personalised Books PenWizard

baby weight loss success stories

I adore personalised gifts, so when Penwizard offered me the opportunity to review one of their personalised books, I jumped at the chance! I think personalised gifts are lovely to give, and it can make gift giving that little bit easier when you have taken the time to personalise a product.

Penwizards website is very simple and easy to use and what I particularity like is that for a number of their books you get to read a preview of what the final edit will look like.  Whilst this is very helpful, it also meant that me and my daughter spent a considerable amount of time picking our book, looking at characters and seeing what we would like if we starred in Peppa Pig!!! You can choose from titles like Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly, In The Night Garden and princess and knight books. Some books offer the personalisation through the childs name, whilst with others you can design the characters to personalise and then add a name too.

After much discussion, me and my daughter eventually chose a Peppa Pig My Daddy book and we set about with our creation! My daughter helped pick her daddys hair colour and style, facial hair and eye colour.  We did this again for my daughter, much to my daughters delight!  A few quick checks and our book was done!! I ordered the book on Thursday evening and by Saturday morning our shiny new book featuring two special characters had arrived!!!

The quality of the book is fantastic and even the little details, like a summary of the story with our personalised pictures on the back of the book is a lovely touch.  These books are amazing for any upcoming childrens birthdays or even for mums and dads from their little ones for birthdays or mothers and fathers day. You can visit the Penwizard website here and for my lovely readers I have a special 15% discount code on all orders!  Just enter the code: 5625849 at checkout to apply your discount.

This personalised book was gifted to me by Penwizard, but this review is entirely my own opinion and review of the book.  I would definitely buy again and I highly recommend their site! x

weight loss during pregnancy gestational diabetes | HOW IRON CAN HELP YOUR FERTILITY

weight loss during pregnancy gestational diabetes

Pregnancy Over 40 Ovulation and Fertility Helped With Iron

If your multivitamin doesnt contain iron, you might want to think about eating iron fortified foods and cereals.
This study cited below talks about how iron deficiencies can lead to problems with ovulation:

“Our results suggest that women who are planning to become pregnant may improve their fertility by consuming non-heme iron which is found in iron supplements, multivitamins, legumes and spinach,” said Dr. Jorge E. Chavrarro, from the department of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Medicine.

SEE ALSO: FERTILITY DIET, FERTILITY FOODS (Getpregnantover40.com)

For the study, Chavarro and colleagues used data from a large study of 18,000 registered nurses between the ages of 24 and 42. Over the course of 8 years, the researchers noted that there were over 3,500 cases of infertility among the women involved. Of those who went for further testing to find the source of their infertility, 438 women found they were having difficulty becoming pregnant because of an ovulatory disorder, meaning their body had trouble producing viable eggs.

Looking at the iron intake of these women, the researchers found that those women who used iron supplements had about a 40 percent lower risk of having an ovulatory disorder. In fact, women who took supplements with high iron content—more than 41 milligrams a day—lowered their risk of an ovulatory problem by 70 percent. "

baby losing weight in first 2 weeks | Disney World with young children

baby losing weight in first 2 weeks

Magic Kingdom

Large party and our accommodations

We are back from our week in Disney World! My husband is in power school and unable to get time off, so I went without him to Disney World 16-weeks pregnant with our 5-year old and 2.5-year old twins, my parents, my 83-year old grandmother, my youngest sister, and my middle sister with her family (husband and 1.5-year old daughter). All in all, we had 11 people including 3 strollers (my 2.5-year old twins and my sisters 1.5-year old daughter) and 1 wheelchair (for our 83-year old grandmother). We stayed in my parents timeshare, which ended up being fabulous: a 4 bedroom, 2000 square foot Presidential suite with a view of the fireworks in the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. I really cannot say enough fabulous things about our living arrangements that week. My middle sister and her husband had one master bedroom; their 1.5-year old daughter slept in a large hall bathroom in her PackNPlay. My 2.5-year old twins shared a bedroom. My parents slept in the other master bedroom. Granny, my 5-year old, my youngest sister, and I shared the last bedroom. I was going to put my 5-year old in the same room as his brothers, but he prefers to sleep with Granny, his favorite person in the whole wide world! :)

I had all 3 of my boys wear matching shirts each day we were in Disney World. Read my blog post: "Make your own Disney shirts."

Shuttle versus parking?

We thought before we came down to Disney World that we would take the resorts shuttle in to the park each day. However, the shuttle turned out to cost $6 a person plus we had to make a reservation an hour in advance (the timeshare is not a Disney resort). We then decided to drive our vehicles and park each day instead. Parking cost $15 a vehicle each day ($30 a day to park both our vehicles compared to $66 a day on the shuttle with the hassle of making the reservation and waiting for the shuttle). Disney World is very spread out; everything is not close together like Disneyland, so driving worked out just fine. The parking lots are laid out so that you dont have to take the tram in; you can walk from every park entrance to anywhere in the parking lot. We walked from the park to our car at Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot. We had parked a fair distance away from the entrance to Hollywood Studios and so we did ride the tram both ways at that park.

Strollers and a wheelchair?

With 3 strollers, a wheelchair, and 11 people total in our party, it was important to be efficient-- loading and unloading at the tram (including folding all 3 strollers and the wheelchair) or parking the strollers outside rides and restaurants. My middle sister with the 1.5-year old daughter wore a backpack that had everything she needed in it: money, diapers, etc. I believe underneath her stroller was mostly empty. Im not sure she kept anything in her stroller besides drinks and such (she has a Baby Jogger City Mini). I used two umbrella strollers at the park. I wore a small backpack that was mostly empty, a small wallet with my debit card and IDs and various things I threw in there throughout the day (purchases, a bottle of water for the boys, etc). I hung their diaper bag on the back of one of the strollers and left that there when we went on rides. When I went into a restaurant and left the strollers outside, I grabbed 2 diapers and the wipes out of my diaper bag. On the back of the wheelchair we hung a drawstring bag, a lot like this: Minnie Mouse drawstring bag. We kept bottles of water and granola bars in that. We made sure to refill the water and granola bars each day.

Read my blog post "Strollers in Disney" for more information on taking toddler twins to Disney World.

Disney tip: use stickers, luggage tags, or ribbon to help mark your stroller or wheelchair. The strollers and wheelchairs must be parked in designated stroller or wheelchair parking or they will be moved to the nearest stroller/wheelchair parking by a cast member. When parked in these areas, you would be surprised at how many people have your stroller and how all the rental wheelchairs look alike! The ribbons on the back of our wheelchair really helped us find our wheelchair quickly and the stickers on the back of our strollers really helped when finding our strollers as well.

FastPass+?

While we were there we encountered two new things: FastPass+ and the Disney Marathon. First, FastPass+. Since we were not staying in a Disney resort, we did not have FastPass+ each day at the Magic Kingdom or at Epcot; we only got to use FastPass+ there on certain days that they were testing it. Animal Kingdom had FastPass+ each day and I honestly dont remember if Hollywood Studios had FastPass+ or not; we only got FastPasses there for Toy Story Mania! The difference between FastPasses and FastPass+ is huge. When you get a FastPass, you have to walk to the ride and get a FastPass for the time available; the FastPass station will say the time above the station and you can choose to get a FastPass for there or not. For instance, you could walk to the Haunted Mansion and see the time "1:30-2:30" and either decide to get the FastPass or not, but you couldnt get one for a later or earlier time. On the bottom of the FastPass it would tell you the time that you could get another FastPass, usually an hour before the time on your FastPass, so it would be about 12:30 in our scenario. For FastPass+ you can get up to 3 FastPasses at the same time and you go to a FastPass+ station anywhere in the park. On one of our days at the Magic Kingdom, there was a man at the monorail station-- before you even entered the park-- with a FastPass+ sign who gave us FastPasses. We had lunch plans and so we got FastPasses for Enchanted Tales with Belle at 9:45, immediately after we entered the park, and FastPasses for Big Thunder and Peter Pan in the afternoon, after we ate lunch. When my sister, who was working out all our FastPasses, told us what time she got the Big Thunder FastPasses for, my mom and I felt she should have gotten them a little later, so she asked the man to change them, which he did. I loved that we could change times and choose times with FastPass+.

Disney tip: when figuring out which FastPasses you want to get, Toy Story Mania! at Hollywood Studios and Peter Pan in Magic Kingdom run out of FastPasses early. Try to get those FastPasses as soon as you get to those parks.

Disney Marathon?

As for the Disney Marathon, we just happened to book our Disney World vacation during the time the marathon was going on. While all the Disney books and websites say "DO NOT GO TO DISNEY WORLD ON MARATHON WEEKEND," we actually didnt have many issues with the marathon. We went to Hollywood Studios the first day (Saturday, the day of the half marathon) and had no crowds or traffic. The second day (Sunday, the day of the full marathon) we went to Animal Kingdom. We had no traffic getting to the park and Animal Kingdom was not busy. The only encounter we had of the marathon was entering the Animal Kingdom. The marathon route went right in front of the park entrance and so when we got off the tram from the parking lot, we had to wait to be flagged through the marathon course. On the way out of the park, we just walked to our car and the marathon was over so we didnt even have to wait to cross. It all worked out just fine. However, we tried to go to Shades of Green Saturday morning to buy discounted military tickets and the traffic over there was horrible, so we gave up and just went to Hollywood Studios and bought tickets at the gate. It worked out very well to go to our resort concierge and find out where the marathon route was and where we should go.

Exploring the Shades of Green resort

Military park tickets

To buy discounted military tickets at Disney World, you must go to Shades of Green. The military tickets are not for sale at the gate of the Disney parks; they will tell you to go to Shades of Green. To find the military prices, go to the Shades of Green website http://www.shadesofgreen.org/index.html, hover your mouse over "Attraction tickets" and then click on "Walt Disney World." The first thing you will see on that page is the advertisement for $169 Four Day Military Appreciation Park Hopper ticket. These tickets are for sale at your local ITT office and you should buy these in advance. Your ITT office can run out of these tickets. Each military family can buy up to 6 of these tickets in a calendar year. When you buy these tickets, you are given a voucher that you activate at the gate of the Disney parks (you do not go to Shades of Green to do this). Disney will give you your 4 day park hopper tickets at the gate and the military member or dependent must be present to activate the tickets; DoD is not eligible to buy or activate these tickets. Shades of Green does sell discounted military tickets that you can buy even if you have bought 6 of the Military Appreciation tickets. To find the prices for those tickets, look under option 2 on the "Walt Disney World" tickets page and select what is applicable to you. Since we were not staying at a Disney resort, we selected "I will not be staying at Shades of Green or another WDW resort hotel" and compared ticket prices for us there. It is also important to keep in mind that children under 3-years old have FREE park entry, so our 3 toddlers, my 2.5-year old twins and my sisters 1.5-year old daughter, were free.

Side note on Shades of Green, it was a really nice resort! If we did not have access to my parents timeshare, we would have stayed at Shades of Green.

My Disney Experience app
?
This app was amazing. Before you go, you must download this on your smartphone. My sister made lunch reservations for us at Epcot one night while we were out to dinner at House of Blues. While we were waiting in line on one ride, we would use the app to figure out which ride we wanted to go on next. We did go to Disney World in January so the lines were short, but we used the app to make sure we were never standing in line for more than 25 minutes with our large party full of young children.

Disney tip: the line times are always slightly exaggerated. Most of the time when a line said 25 minutes, it took us 15-20 minutes to get through. 10 minute lines usually took about 5 minutes and a 5 minute line usually meant we could just walk on.

Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios

Our first day in the park was spent at Hollywood Studios. We had a lunch reservation at the 50s Prime Time Café, which ended up working out great due to the marathon. While my dad and brother-in-law went to ride Tower of Terror, we took the kids to the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure. They played there for a long time, all the way up to our lunch reservation. When we first entered the park shortly after it opened, we made a beeline to the Toy Story Mania! ride to get FastPasses. I was surprised that early in the day it had a 60 minute wait and the FastPass time was all the way at 6:30-7:30 pm. We go the FastPasses and our party broke up. I didnt feel there was much for our toddlers to do in Hollywood Studios, though I think our 5-year old would have enjoyed it a bit more. He didnt really get a chance to though because he spent the whole morning playing with us at the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure. They all had a lot of fun there. Lunch at the Prime Time Café was really good. If you go, say hi to Cousin Joey for us; he was our waiter and very funny. Before lunch, I ordered the boys Mouse ear hats with their names embroidered on the back. My dad and brother-in-law picked them up for us later. When we took the boys back to nap, they stayed and rode the RockNRoller Coaster.

Digging in the Boneyard at Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom

Our second day was spent at Animal Kingdom. This park was very exciting for the boys to look at. We really started spotting characters here. On our way to Dinoland, we spotted a Meet and Greet with Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. We just walked down and the boys were star struck. This was the first character encounter for the toddlers and they werent quite sure what to do. They were very excited to meet Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, but didnt want to hug them. Our 5-year old had his little autograph book out and took his picture with them. After that, we went to The Boneyard in Dinoland. All of our boys loved this, even my dad! After playing for a bit, my mom and I took the toddlers to a play area across from the Boneyard. The play area was really nice, but very hard to navigate with 3 toddlers. There were lots of stairs and slides that they needed assistance with. I felt this play area was geared more toward the older kids (our 5-year old loved it) while the play area in Hollywood Studios was perfect for all the ages of kids we had with us. In Dinoland, our 5-year old rode DINOSAUR and Primeval Whirl. We all went to Its Tough to be a Bug; it terrified the toddlers and made our 5-year old nervous. We left with clingy crying children wondering if we should have skipped it. :) The Kilimanjaro Safari was a huge hit with everyone; the kids absolutely loved it and were all talking about it well after it was over. I was really surprised when my 5-year old insisted he wanted to ride Expedition Everest (even though he had already ridden the Primeval Whirl and DINOSAUR and loved them both), but he was adamant. So I let him ride. He went on it twice and loved it! When we were trying to leave the park, we got cut off by Mickeys Jammin Jungle Parade.? I was glad we were! The boys loved the parade, especially when the animals leaned over and stuck their tongues out or a character came over for a high five. We all wanted to come back and spend more time at the Animal Kingdom. We didnt get to do everything that we wanted to-- there was a lot we didnt explore-- but the Magic Kingdom was by far the biggest hit with our children and so we spent our last "extra day" there instead of coming back here. I really wish we could have explored Discovery Island, but our toddlers were in desperate need of a nap!

Outside The Seas with Nemo at Epcot

Epcot

We spent our fifth day at Epcot. Epcot was not very popular with our 3 toddlers, though our 5-year old had a good time there. All of the adults in our group said that even though our 5-year old was having a great time, it would have been even more fun to go at an adult pace and really get to explore the different shops and shows instead of going at a preschoolers pace. My sister and her husband actually got to go back and spend the evening there, just the two of them. We were all jealous to hear they found an adorable shop in Japan that sold Totoro stuff. One of the toddlers basically started melting down the minute we walked into the park. We made our way over to The Seas with Nemo and Friends, which was an adorable ride. We did Turtle Talk with Crush afterwards and it was a big hit with my 2.5-year olds, but not so much with my sisters 1.5-year old. She seemed to get bored or antsy during the show. I sat out of Soarin with my toddlers, even though my mom offered to sit with them so I could go. They were having epic meltdowns by this point and I was feeling pretty tired keeping them happy in the stroller. Thankfully we had a lunch reservation at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall set up so I was able to tell the boys that we were on our way to get food, which seemed to cheer them up. My sisters and I really wanted a character dining with princesses, so we were really looking forward to this lunch. We were all surprised with how much my boys liked it, especially the toddlers! One of my toddlers gave Aurora the biggest hug and kiss; we thought he would never let go. It was very cute, plus the food was delicious. (Im not sure my 5-year old cared for his meatballs though.) After lunch we were able to just walk on Maelstrom, which was right outside of Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. I have to say, the children liked the boat ride, but all the adults were very confused. I then left with my mom and sisters to get the toddlers down to nap. My dad, brother-in-law, and grandmother stayed to explore some more with my 5-year old. I know they went on Captain EO, the Test Track (I dont think Granny rode this), and Mission: Space. They also rode the Gran Fiesta Tour in Mexico; apparently this boat ride was much less confusing and enjoyable than the one I rode in Norway. Epcot made me wish I had brought our baby-sitter with us. I really (really, really, really) wanted to browse through the Disney art stores and wander through the countries.

Brunch at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom was a hit with our entire party. As west coasters, we grew up going to Disneyland and Magic Kingdom was most reminiscent of the happiest place on earth. With a large party, there was also the most to do here for everyone, including a pregnant woman (me), 3 toddlers, and adults. I even think Granny had the most fun here, though she liked exploring Epcot with my 5-year old (her little man, her first great-grandchild). We spent our third, fourth, and sixth day at Magic Kingdom, 3 days total. My 5-year olds favorite rides were Big Thunder, Space Mountain, and the Tomorrowland Speedway. My 2.5-year old twins favorite rides were: Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin (though they didnt really shoot the guns), Its a Small World, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pans Flight, and Under the Sea. All of the boys loved dining in the Hundred Acre Wood at the Crystal Palace on Main Street. I absolutely loved Be Our Guest (we went for their quick lunch, not being able to get a dinner reservation), Enchanted Tales with Belle, and taking the boys to the Tiki Room. Obviously my favorite princess is Belle. :) Our other family favorites are Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Dumbo, and the Jungle Cruise. One thing I liked better at Disney World than Disneyland is Belles village in Fantasyland; I loved it. There is a whole Beauty and the Beast shop by the Gaston fountain. It was also nice to ride the PeopleMovers again, as they have been long closed in Disneyland. However, the Railroad and the Swiss Family Treehouse (now Tarzans Treehouse in Disneyland) are much better in Disneyland. The other really fun experiences we had were the Captain Jack Sparrows Pirate Tutorial (my 5-year old is still talking about it) and the Main Street Electrical Light Parade. It was so worth staying in the park late for the kids to get to watch the Main Street Electrical Light Parade; it is such a fun parade. Instead of battling the crowds to leave the park afterwards, we headed to Pirates of the Caribbean and walked right on the ride-- no line-- before heading out.

Disney tip: the quick lunch line at Be Our Guest moves much faster than you would think. When we stood in line, we were told 30 minutes and it took about 20 minutes. They open for lunch at 11:00 am, but you can start standing in line at 10:30 am. Make sure you look at the menu while waiting in line because you order before you are seated.

Napping in the Magic Kingdom

Toddlers and naps

Napping while at Disney World was a play it by ear kinda thing with us. I originally planned on heading back to our timeshare everyday at naptime, no matter what. Sometimes it just didnt work out that way. Our first day at Hollywood Studios did. The day at Animal Kingdom did not. Most of our days at Magic Kingdom didnt. On Monday, when we were at Magic Kingdom from 9 am to almost 9 pm for the Main Street Electrical Light Parade, all 3 of our toddlers actually napped in their strollers. My mom sat with them all while the rest of us rode the Jungle Cruise. The Epcot day we had to leave right after lunch to put the toddlers down to nap because they were behaving so badly. We had a lot of long days. We had to have a lot of patience with the toddlers. A tired toddler doesnt want to get off his favorite ride and one of my toddlers absolutely lost it when we got off Winnie the Pooh. But it was so fun. They loved riding Small World. They loved meeting the princesses and Mickey. They loved the Electrical Light Parade. This definitely is not how we do things at home. I dont normally carry bags of granola bars to bribe our kids with while waiting in line for things. We just tried to be calm, relaxed, be patient, be understanding, be prepared (crayons, snacks, plenty of water on hand), and go with the flow.

My family can tell you, I was very nervous when heading out on this Disney vacation, especially since my husband wasnt coming. I felt that I would be pregnant and tired and have 3 over-stimulated worn out boys on my hands. Instead, my family was amazingly helpful. Our timeshare arrangement worked out perfectly (so nice to be able to put them in a room and close the door during naptime). I thought I would just end up missing out on all the stuff I wanted to do (yes, I love Disney). Instead, I had a great time. There were rough moments (ahem, Epcot). There were tiring days (the walk back to the car 16-weeks pregnant after spending almost 12 hours in the Magic Kingdom with 3 strollers, 1 wheelchair, and a party of 11 felt like a long, long walk). But parenting is a leap of faith, an adventure, a ginormous why not? You never know until you try and this time was one of those times that I was beyond thrilled that I had taken the risk (okay, that my mother and husband talked me into it) and that I had an adventurous attitude. So a huge thank you to my family for being so wonderful. You were so supportive and understanding the whole week. You really helped me out and I had so much fun with you. Thank you to my husband for listening to my nighttime worries the week leading up to the trip and to my friends who offered all their advice and Disney tips before we went.

All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.

baby losing weight from diarrhea | CHANGING YOUR PREGNANCY MINDSET

baby losing weight from diarrhea

If youve been trying to conceive for more than a year and youre not having success, you may be in a place of anger and feeling the unfairness of what life has dished out to you.  You probably are feeling unworthy and "less than" everyone else who seems to be able to get pregnant with no problem.  If you believe in the law of attraction, this can be a big problem in bringing a baby into your life.

(see my website here for more on meditation and visualization - getpregnantover40.com)

The law of attraction basically says that you will attract to you that which you are.  So if you are feeling down, angry, jealous and basically unworthy, you will attract more of that to yourself.  As hard as it may seem, you need to change your mindset and subsequently your "vibration" to a more positive place.  One of the ways I accomplished this was through visualization and meditation

Even though I went through a six year journey with infertility and miscarriage, somehow I was able to see my baby in my life.  I could feel her hovering over me.  When I visualized, I could see me feeding her, playing with her and how happy I was.  Yes, I did all of this while experiencing a grueling journey of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and surgery.  When I visualized, I would find myself smiling.  It didnt always take away the hurt during other times of the day, but those moments of happiness and relief went a long way.  The positive thoughts are more powerful than the negative ones.

I also found it helpful to get back to nature.  Take a walk in the park (barefoot if possible to make contact with the earth) and imagine yourself with your baby in tow.  If you really want to attract something into your life, you need to behave as if you already have it.   I even remember taking long walks and repeating with each step "I am going to have a baby", or "I have a baby".  I dont always know how it works, all I know is that it does.  Give it a try, you will find immediate relief when you change your pregnancy mindset.

weight loss during pregnancy sign of miscarriage | Miscarriage

weight loss during pregnancy sign of miscarriage

So Ive been conflicted for the past couple weeks about whether or not I should blog about our miscarriage. On one hand, I would love to talk about it because it is so isolating. On the other hand, it feels so personal. In the end, I think talking about it is the best thing to do.

From the beginning, this pregnancy was showing signs of problems. My OB/Gyn does a first trimester ultrasound. The ultrasound had abnormalities... the weeks werent lining up right... we did blood tests... the numbers went up, but not as much as they wanted... more ultrasounds... After several weeks of this up and down, one step forward and two steps back, it was clear the baby was not developing and was in fact miscarrying. We decided to try the medication, this pill you put on your cervix, to try and have the miscarriage at home without surgery. This way we wouldnt have to line up a sitter for an early morning surgery with recovery time. The pill didnt work and I ended up still needing a D&C because my uterus did not clear. Thankfully we were able to line up childcare. Our baby-sitters are absolutely wonderful. I cannot begin to express how nice it is to lay down to rest in my bedroom and hear my children giggling with joy because their baby-sitter is playing a fun game with them. They have been such a blessing to us.

This is actually my second D&C. I miscarried during our first pregnancy, a little after 12 weeks. It is so heartbreaking to see a baby on the ultrasound and never get to hold it. I started bleeding over the weekend. After a frantic ER visit and daily blood tests, it was confirmed I was miscarrying. It was the same situation where my uterus did not clear and I needed a D&C. Since it was our first child and it felt so late to miscarry, I remember feeling horrified to have a D&C. This time felt different. Perhaps because there were problems from the beginning and so we at least had an idea this was coming.

Miscarrying is a hard thing for people to address. It is emotionally devastating to go through. We were trying to have babies both times we miscarried. It was hard to let go of that dream, that child, that we wanted to hold so badly. It drains you as a mother. I feel like these are children of mine I will never get to meet. I hope I can hold them one day in heaven. I dont know if that sounds silly, but that is how I feel. You want people to say something to you about your loss, but then you hear things like, "At least it happened early in the pregnancy" or "You can try again soon." Those things, while well-meaning, feel like a pat on the head, as if I didnt just lose a baby. And I know that to other people that a baby in the first trimester, before Im even showing, might not feel like a baby to them. But it did to me. And it is hard for my husband. I remember when our first son was born. My husband held him in his arms and said, "Can you believe that we have a baby?" I had to laugh because I felt like I had a baby the moment I saw two pink lines; I was just waiting for him to be born! I know it is different for men. My husband through this whole process has been wonderful. He has held me when I needed a cry and has cheered me up with movie nights, chocolate, and refilling my water every time he gets up. Sometimes though, I feel like life has just moved on for him during this miscarriage while I feel stuck. I dont know if I want to move on without this baby.

Wonderfully, through my husbands love and support, hes really helped me focus on the blessings I do have. With gentle patience, I have seen his love for me each day these past several weeks as we worried and prayed over this pregnancy. I am so blessed by him. I cherish him every day. And I hope and pray our sons turn out like him. I love our three boys. I cant wait for them to all be big brothers (hopefully to a little sister!). This time just wasnt the time.

We didnt see this miscarriage coming. We thought our first miscarriage was "common," being our first pregnancy. We heard that happens often. We felt we had gotten it over with and that now we would have normal pregnancies. We brought our four-year old with us to the first trimester ultrasound, hoping to get him excited about this budding addition to our family. I had been feeling awful: exhausted, nauseous, throwing up. I thought this would be a great way for him to connect with the baby and maybe feel sympathetic towards Mommy. Instead we had bad news. He didnt understand what the doctor was saying, nor did we explain it to him until we had confirmed that it was indeed a miscarriage, which was nearly three weeks later. From the beginning he had named the baby "Baby Flowers." He said he wanted to name it Flowers because girls like flowers and he wanted a baby sister. To quote him, "I have enough brothers!" Every day he prayed for Baby Flowers, that she was having a good day in Mommys tummy and that she knew how much he loved her. It was precious. When we told him that we werent having a baby right now, he asked why not. I told him that God wanted Baby Flowers to come live with him. He turned his little face to me and said with tears in his eyes, "But cant I hold her first before she goes and lives with God? Cant you tell God we want her?" My heart broke. We told him we would have another baby soon and he said he would name that baby Baby Flowers too. My husband then brought out the Legos and all was well, but, man, those words have hung with me. Next time we are going to wait to tell him about my pregnancy.

Im doing better now. It was really hard two weeks ago, around 10 weeks, when we tried that medication. I did not want to do it. I cried as I waited for it to work, thinking, "I dont want a miscarriage!" At the follow-up ultrasound, I saw the 12 weeks 1 day mark on the screen and wished that it were different, that I wasnt miscarrying. But I cant change it. I can only trust God and know He has a plan for us. At 12 weeks 2 days, I had the D&C. I really am feeling better. It helps me to think of these babies weve lost as our children, as babies we have lost. I let myself grieve the past couple weeks. I was surprised that I was grieving over our first miscarriage again. Those feelings came back up and I remembered how I felt leaving the ER when I first started bleeding. I remembered how terrified I was to have a D&C. But I also remembered all the good things that happened because of it. I met two wonderful women who have become my best friends. I became pregnant with a beautiful baby boy, our firstborn, the first month we could start trying again. Over the past couple years, Ive been able to talk about that miscarriage with other women who have gone through the same thing. I know God has a plan and that this will turn out for good.

I always find comfort in my favorite Psalm, Psalm 91. Here is an excerpt:

"Because he loves me, says the Lord, I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."

post pregnancy weight loss first week | CRYSTALS FOR HEALING TO GET PREGNANT

post pregnancy weight loss first week

You may have heard about the healing properties of crystals.  If you are trying to conceive, you are probably doing everything you can to get your body back in balance.  This article talks about how crystals can help:

The Myriad Colours of Crystals and Their Healing Properties

Gueat Post By Ron Windred

Though its not a documented fact, its fairly safe to say that there are as many crystals as there are colours that represent them. The lore of each type of crystal and its innate healing assets has been passed down from generation to generation, and similar to Chinese medicine shops that specialize in herbal mixtures for remedies of all kinds of ailments, crystals also have distinct yet delicate healing and enhancement facilities.
Wondering which crystal to choose for a specific need? Below is a list of several of the most widely used crystals, and the main purposes for their application:
Amethyst - (purple/violet) - This crystal strengthens the endocrine and immune system, and it is also a powerful blood cleanser and energizer. In addition, it helps relieve mental distress and disorders and enhances psychic and channeling abilities. The Amethyst crystal is very calming, and therefore its an excellent crystal to use for meditation.
Aventurine - (sea-green/forest-green) - The Aventurine crystal is said to purify the "three bodies" - the mental, emotional, and etheric, or "aural" body that extends just outside what appears to be the "edges" of your physical body. It also aids in releasing anxiety and fear and thereby encourages independence.
Carnelian - (bright orange) - This lovely colored crystal improves memory and alleviates sorrow and grief. It also increases courage and creativity while lessening anger, jealousy, and fear. Many people carry the Carnelian crystal for protection and good luck. Helpful hint: It can also assist you in finding the right mate!
Fluorite - (milky white, clear, light green, slate gray) - The properties of the Fluorite crystal are just what you probably already imagine: they strengthen your teeth and bones! They are known as the "health" crystals, because they are also very beneficial for keeping the blood vessels and the spleen clear of any toxins. Fluorite crystals also ground and "fling away" excess energy, so they are also excellent for the advancement of the mind, concentration, and meditation. For those of you who are interested in interplanetary communication, fluorite will also keep you strong and healthy while connecting with interdimensional beings.

Clear Quartz - (white, clear) - The Clear Quartz crystal might be the most popular in certain circles, simply because of its pure simplicity. This wonderful crystal activates and enhances the pineal and pituitary glands, which regulate growth, so this crystal is recommended for children and adolescents, in particular. These crystals also serve as great emotional "balancers" while amplifying the thought process, making clairvoyance that much easier. Hang these crystals in front of a window to let the full spectrum of energy activate all your levels of consciousness, especially when you are feeling down - these crystals are pros at dispelling negative energy.
Lapis - (topaz/blue) - Lapis Lazuli, as this crystal is also known, is very effective for the internal organs: use this crystal if you suffer from migraines, acid reflux or other digestive problems, or bloating. It also aids in spiritual development.
Hematite - (silver gray/dark gray) - Hematite has an extremely positive effect on the smooth flow of the bloodstream. It also removes toxins from and activates spleen activity, which filters blood and regulates the red blood cells with the white blood cells. Hematite is also used to relieve stress and strengthen the physical body; it has unique energizing properties, and it also enhances personal magnetism, which of course promotes optimism, courage, and all those good things!
Rose Quartz - (pink/rose) - This crystal is often found near the bedside, as it is believed to increase fertility and ease sexual and emotional imbalances. Naturally, this clears away stored-up anger, resentment, guilt, fear, and jealousy. Have a hot temper, or a friend who flares up a little too much? Get a Rose Quartz crystal, by all means! "Everything sweet" is the perfect description for this crystal, which also promotes forgiveness, compassion, and love. No one should be without it!
Jasper - (light brown/spotted/flecked) - The Jasper crystal emits tremendous emotional and psychological healing, and it promotes harmony and balance. Some say it reveals hidden thoughts, hopes, and fears. It definitely enhances creative visualization, so have this one in hand while youre meditating.
Moonstone - (cream/often bluish-green) - The moonstone crystal is associated with love and protection, and it also drums up extra intuition and psychic abilities.
Obsidian - (black/gray) - This shiny crystal is popular because it brings serenity and a sense of purity to those who either, carry, wear, or use it for healing purposes. It brings both positive and negative emotions to the surface, offering balance in times of change and transition.
Sodalite - (smoky blue/clear, dark blue) - This gorgeous crystal is also an inner-organ healer; it positively affects the pancreas and endocrine system. Also, it is said to remove fear and has a way of balancing the male/female, or yin/yang polarities in those who feel in need of "centering." It also is great for communication and creative expression.
Tiger Eye - (brown/striped/tan/yellow) - This is another crystal many people carry around for health purposes: Tiger Eye crystals cover almost everything: the spleen, pancreas, intestines, and the colon. It is extremely grounding and centering. Have a stubborn friend? Slip one of these into his or her pocket as a token of love. Soon theyll turn to you with a sudden, yet clear sense of perception and insight!

baby weight loss shakes | Lose your Lingerie A Valentine Nail

baby weight loss shakes

Lose your lingerie is a rather catchy title isnt it?! Sorry to disappoint, but this is a review of the Rita Oras Rimmel 60 second coat nail polish in 203...Lose Your Lingerie. The name got me giggling in the beauty aisle of Boots, because quite frankly, the only images it made me think of are when I a) always think Ive lost my pants at swimming and b) I still cant find said pants as my daughter has them on her head and is singing to Frozen. I have a sneaky suspicion that this isnt the image the brand are trying to evoke. But anyway, onto the review.

I continue to adore the Rimmel 60 second polishes for the facts that they are very very fast drying, have a great range of colours and are only £2.99. You really cant go wrong.  This shade is a pinky nude colour and alas, with most nude colours Ive tried before, application can be a little tricky and you do need a build up of the colour onto the nail. Normally with the Rimmel 60 second shades I apply two coats, but I found applying only two coats with this shade made my nails looked a little patchy.  Three coats seemed to do the trick and the colour looked more uniform. As the polish is so quick to dry I didnt really mind this, it just took a little longer than usual. I think the colour is really pretty and perfect for any upcoming Valentine day dates.

weight loss during pregnancy for obese | Strollers in Disney

weight loss during pregnancy for obese

We are heading to Disney World soon and Ive been doing a lot of planning. Our twin toddlers are two and a half years old. One thing my friends and blog readers know is that I am head over heels for our stroller, the Baby Jogger City Select with the second seat. Ive written two reviews on it: "I love my stroller" and "0-2 years old: twin must-haves." From the time our twins were born, we have used 1 and only 1 stroller, our tried and true Baby Jogger City Select with the second seat. Now we have another baby on the way and we plan on putting our stroller through its paces again. So as I thought about our upcoming Disney trip, I started thinking about using my stroller there. There were pros to using my Baby Jogger City Select in Disney-- like the large storage basket underneath, how compact it is, how easy it is to maneuver-- but, when traveling, remember the Accidental Tourist: never travel with something you would be devastated losing. I know we are going to Disney-- the happiest place on earth-- but I would be so upset if someone stole our stroller while we were on a ride. I would probably be worried about my stroller parked out there in stroller parking the whole time I was waiting in line. With another baby on the way, I am going to want that stroller again this summer. With a heavy heart, I told our stroller that it would not be going to Disney with us.

Last year some time I traded in a bunch of Pampers Gifts to Grow points for an umbrella stroller. I got this stroller with the intention that it would stay in the back of my husbands vehicle, when he went out with the boys. Well, he got swamped in college and ended up never needing the stroller. It has sat unused in our garage for over a year. When I decided to leave our Baby Jogger City Select at home, I remembered the umbrella stroller in our garage. It is a First Years Jet Stroller, retailing for $49.98. I actually found the red stroller, same as the one I already owned, for $39.98 on Amazon. Because I used Pampers Gifts to Grow points for the first stroller, I only had to buy the second stroller. We also bought the Prince Lionheart Stroller Connectors for $8.01, bringing our total to $47.99 (one free stroller + one stroller for $39.98 + stroller connectors for $8.01).

Before buying the stroller, my husband and I did some brain storming. We are going to Disney with a large group of relatives. We have no idea how interested the toddlers will be in riding rides. What I do know is that there will be lots of hands available to push a stroller. When traveling with my family, we often break up into groups, especially since Im pregnant and my elderly grandmother will be with us. If one of the toddlers enjoys riding rides and my sisters want to take him, it would be nice if I could send them with a stroller. I also thought about if everyone decides to ride something that the toddlers do not want to ride and Im then stuck in Disney World with two strollers and two toddlers. My husband and I decided that two lightweight umbrella strollers with connectors were the perfect solution. When navigating Disney crowds we can easily disconnect them so we arent pushing a side-by-side. We will have plenty of people available to help push strollers and I can easily connect them and push them myself when need be.

We did the math as to whether it was more practical for us to buy all this ($47.99) or rent a stroller while we are there. Disney World has two stroller rental prices for single strollers: per each day ($15) or length of stay ($13). If we rented a stroller day by day, we would pay $45 for 3 days, almost exceeding our total. We would pay $90 if we ended up renting a stroller for the 6 days we are in the park. If we reserved a stroller for length of stay (6 days total), we would pay $78. That is all for a single stroller rental. The double stroller price is $31 a day (2 days totaling $62, 6 days $186) or $27 for length of stay (6 days $162). Buying a second stroller and the connectors is far more economical. Once we get back from Disney, I plan on keeping one of the umbrella strollers, just in case my husband needs a stroller in the back of his vehicle, and we can donate the second stroller.

The nice thing about the First Years Jet Umbrella Stroller is that it is fairly tall, fairly comfortable to push, has a basket underneath, and has a "mommy console" with a cup holder and zip pocket attached to the handles. Here are pictures of the strollers and our Disney stroller solution. I will update this post after our trip to tell you how it went and if this really is a clever idea or not. {Scroll down to read my review!}

The First Years Jet Strollers
They have a nice hood to protect against sun and it is removable.
The basket underneath. Not extremely large, but still nice that there is a basket.
The "mommy console" on the new stroller we bought, zipper pouch and cup holders.
The "mommy console" on the stroller we got through Pampers Gifts to Grow. In addition to the zipper pouch and cup holders, it also has mesh pockets on the outside.
The Prince Lionheart Stroller Connectors from Amazon. They are very easy to use, much easier than I was anticipating.
Our five-year old helping connect the strollers.
The two umbrella strollers connected with the stroller connectors. When practicing pushing the strollers, I either pushed from the middle holding the two handles closest together or pushing both handles on one stroller. Either way was comfortable.

Close up of the connected strollers. The only time I had the two front wheels turn into each other while connected was when making a sharp turn. The trick seems to be making wider turns when connecting two umbrella strollers.
All three of the connectors fit easily in the zipper pocket of the "mommy console." For now, Im storing them there. While we are at Disney, I may store them in the diaper bag. Im going to hang a small back pack on the back of one of the strollers to use as our diaper bag.

{UPDATE ON STROLLERS IN DISNEY WORLD}

We are home from our trip to Disney World! Im sure you are curious as to how our strollers did in action. Well, these clips suck. I did use them 3 times while at Disney World and they did do the job. However, with an almost 30-pound toddler in each stroller, the strollers were difficult to navigate while connected. If I pushed just one stroller, the other stroller had a tendency to drift slightly behind the stroller I was pushing and get the wheels tangled. If I pushed the handles closest together, I couldnt turn the thing. To be able to control the strollers the most, I needed to push the outside handle of one stroller and the inside handle of the other stroller. It was awkward and uncomfortable on my hands. It did get the job done though. I connected the strollers on our way out of Hollywood Studios the first day. There were a lot of turns to get out of Hollywood Studios and back to our vehicle. It was hard to make those turns with my stroller connected. The other 2 times I connected the strollers were at the Magic Kingdom. If you have walked Main Street and the Magic Kingdom, you know how difficult it would be to navigate a side-by-side double stroller out of there, especially a cumbersome side-by-side. I had a heck of time on the narrow sidewalks. The other horrible thing about these connectors is that if one stroller abruptly stops, they pop apart. For instance (no judgment, it is a crowded, busy place) a kid leapt in front of my stroller on our way out of the park and I didnt stop in time. One of the strollers came to a halt when it hit his feet. Two of the three stroller connectors popped apart so I was in the middle of the walkway unable to drag both of my umbrella strollers out of the way, apologizing to this kid and his family while trying to connect my strollers again. All in all, it did the job. No, I will never use these stroller connectors again. I did see two different people with these stroller connectors, the Munchkin Stroller Connectors, and they looked like they were much easier to push the strollers with. Mine were easy to get on and get off and did do the job, but the dang strollers were really difficult to push when connected.

Also, these umbrella strollers were next to impossible to push when a toddler was throwing a temper tantrum. One of our toddlers kept throwing fits and would stomp on the plastic foot rest. When the plastic strap was stomped down on, it would put pressure on the front two wheels and effectively stop the stroller. If he was arching his back and leaning to one side, the one side would stop and the stroller would make a sharp turn. It was really frustrating. You also could not push these strollers with one hand. So when my sisters would go and get FastPasses and then call to see where we were, I either had to push with the phone rested on my shoulder-- not easy-- or push with one hand and one elbow, holding the phone up to my ear. Even worse, sometimes I had to just pull off to the side and stop to take the call and then try to catch up with my party who was still swept off in the crowd-- not an easy task when pregnant.

Those were the downsides to the umbrella strollers and the connectors. I often wished that I had just brought my Baby Jogger City Select with a Second Seat and got over my worry of leaving it outside of rides. After going to Disney World and actually leaving strollers in the stroller parking, I would feel comfortable bringing my stroller and parking it there. I was kicking myself for being so paranoid and not just bringing it. Other times, like when we were boarding the tram or folding up our strollers and leaving them in some corner somewhere, I was really glad we had those umbrella strollers. It wouldnt have been so easy taking a tram in from the parking lot with my Baby Jogger City Select and both of the seats in our laps. And when we were navigating crowds, like the time we left during the fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom, it was nice to only be pushing one umbrella stroller. My mom pushed the other one and those things were really easy to get around with; they were very compact and really easy to navigate when pushing one (and the toddler wasnt throwing a fit). It also was really nice to only have one toddler to take care of instead of two. I talked to the toddler in my stroller and my mom talked to the toddler in her stroller. She got her toddler out and brought him up when we got to a ride and I got my toddler out and brought him up. It was much easier than dealing with both toddlers if I had pushed my double stroller.

If these were a better option than just bringing my Baby Jogger City Select with the Second Seat, Im not sure. I do wish that I had just brought that stroller. As for other stroller options, I think this was way better than a tradition in-line stroller or a side-by-side. I really liked pushing one small stroller in the crowds and easily being able to fold it up or park it.

Disney tip: Instead of renting strollers from Disney World, I saw a lot of people had rented from Orlando Stroller Rentals. Their prices are much better than Disneys and the strollers were nicer!
