pregnancy weight loss tumblr | My true love

pregnancy weight loss tumblr

Hello and happy Friday!  Today I thought I would share with you a new piece in my wardrobe that I am deeply in love with.  This jumper hasnt been off my back since I got it and whilst you may think I am over-exaggerating, I think friends and family have questioned if I actually own any other clothes!! Introducing, my new BFF (!), the All Saints Itat Shrug!

First of all, I adore All Saints.  I think the quality of the clothes is just amazing and very long lasting. Items wash well and are true investment pieces. I had completely fallen in love with this top when I saw it back in October, and I finally purchased it during a 20% event just before Christmas (they seem to have a 20% event most months).  I got it in the grey marl shade, but there is a dark grey, black and taupe available too. The fit is loose with quite fitted sleeves, and there is this lovely drape detail at the front where the material overlaps on itself.  But thats not all!

This is no ordinary jumper.  What I love about this top is that it turns into a cardigan too! You flick the V section behind your head and voila! A cardigan!! (And it actually looks like a lovely cardigan, it doesnt look like you have just wrapped something over your head).

The Itat shrug is still available at All Saints here and the dark grey version appears to have gone in the sale for £39! Versatile, comfy and stylish...I think my love affair with this piece will be a long one!

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful weekend!

weight loss during pregnancy gender | PREGNANT WHEN OVERWEIGHT FERTILITY PROBLEMS FOR BABY

weight loss during pregnancy gender

Trying To Get Pregnant - Obesity Complications

What does diet have to do with fertility? Ive read that approximately 60% of American adults are overweight and children arent far behind
If you ever travel to other countries, you start looking around and wonder, "Hmmmm...where are all the fat people?" But that might not be for long. As other countries get more "Americanized", they are seeing their rates of obesity climb. Ive read that its almost "trendy" to eat American fast food in other countries.

SEE ALSO: FOODS FOR FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)

So, why am I talking about diet and weight on a fertility blog? If youve done any reading about enhancing fertility youve undoubtedly heard that being overweight can affect fertility for both women and men. But now, were finding out that even if you do succeed in getting pregnant, you might hurt your babys future fertility.
When I started my all natural journey to pregnancy, I completely changed how and what I ate. Im glad I did because I still eat just as healthy now and I know that I will never have a weight problem. As a matter of fact, I currently weigh two pounds less than before I got pregnant. I realize all those "bad" foods are quite tasty, but once you starting eating fruits and vegetables daily, you start to prefer them.

Give it a try. Your baby will thank you.

Here is an article from the BBC News:

Lead researcher Dr Michael Davies from the Research Centre in Reproductive Health at the University of Adelaide, said: "We may reasonably expect an epidemic of menstrual and fertility diseases as a consequence."

His team interviewed 544 women who had been born between 1973 and 1974, which meant they were now aged between 30 and 32.
The women were asked about their medical history. Their records were also checked to assess their own birth weight and the weight of their mothers at the last clinical examination before they had given birth.
The women who reported having irregular periods were far more likely to have been large babies and their mothers were more likely to have been obese while carrying them in the womb.

weight loss during pregnancy gestational diabetes | HOW IRON CAN HELP YOUR FERTILITY

weight loss during pregnancy gestational diabetes

Pregnancy Over 40 Ovulation and Fertility Helped With Iron

If your multivitamin doesnt contain iron, you might want to think about eating iron fortified foods and cereals.
This study cited below talks about how iron deficiencies can lead to problems with ovulation:

“Our results suggest that women who are planning to become pregnant may improve their fertility by consuming non-heme iron which is found in iron supplements, multivitamins, legumes and spinach,” said Dr. Jorge E. Chavrarro, from the department of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Medicine.

SEE ALSO: FERTILITY DIET, FERTILITY FOODS (Getpregnantover40.com)

For the study, Chavarro and colleagues used data from a large study of 18,000 registered nurses between the ages of 24 and 42. Over the course of 8 years, the researchers noted that there were over 3,500 cases of infertility among the women involved. Of those who went for further testing to find the source of their infertility, 438 women found they were having difficulty becoming pregnant because of an ovulatory disorder, meaning their body had trouble producing viable eggs.

Looking at the iron intake of these women, the researchers found that those women who used iron supplements had about a 40 percent lower risk of having an ovulatory disorder. In fact, women who took supplements with high iron content—more than 41 milligrams a day—lowered their risk of an ovulatory problem by 70 percent. "

baby weight loss first days | FERTILITY EXPERT IVF MAY BE A WASTE OF TIME

baby weight loss first days

Ive seen Dr. Robert Winston on television a number of times over the years talking about everything from fertility, to pregnancy and everything in between.  He was recently on British television talking about how IVF may be a waste of time for some couples and compared it with treating a headache with brain surgery before trying to figure out the underlying cause.

from the article:

He explained: A large number of people with hormonal problems are not getting the right treatment. Hormone drugs are cheaper but many go straight to IVF.
One of the most common causes of infertility is tubal damage and this can be investigated with a telescope and then with minor surgery to release and open tubes.
Statistically these treatments and hormonal drugs are more effective than IVF and leave patients more likely to be permanently fertile afterwards.

SEE ALSO: HAVING A BABY OVER 40 (getpregnantover40.com)

For couples who have been told they have an unexplained fertility problem, Prof Winston - whose Essential Fertility Guide was published this week - said they should push their GP for further investigations.
Unexplained fertility is not a diagnosis. There will only be a very small minority who are classed as having explained infertility, he said.
The problem is the advice given by GPs is not good enough, they are stressed and have a lot of patients and often see infertility as a minor problem, I get that feeling anyway.

pregnancy weight loss tea | When bad cakes happen to good people

pregnancy weight loss tea

This incident took place last Saturday.  Mr Bee was busy tearing the carpet up from the stairs (we are redecorating) and I was entertaining Baba.  She has had a pretend mixer and cake set for Christmas and her favourite thing to do is for the both of us (I have to be fully participating...no watching from the sidelines-its a bit like Master Chef), to make carrot cakes.  And whilst I love my little girl dearly, after the fifth time of making carrot cakes, I was wanting to stick my head in the oven.  So, being the super mum that I am (ha,ha!), I suggested we make some carrot cakes. For REAL!

Baba squealed with delight and ran to get her apron whilst I rummaged in the cupboards and prayed I had some carrots.  And that my friends is where I went wrong.  I am no Nigella.  And normally when I have to rummage around the cupboards it means I havent got the right ingredients.  And this means that I shouldnt be cooking whatever it is I am trying to.

Did this deter us? Hell no. I found the carrots.  Then I realised I had only half the amount of self raising flour I needed.  I made up the full amount with plain flour and whacked in some baking powder too. Surely that would make it rise? It does get worse.  Then I realised I only had dark muscavado sugar instead of light muscavado sugar.  I mean, there cant be that much difference between the two can there? The dark sugar got thrown into the bowl (literally, Baba was helping mix the ingredients, so I had to fish the packet out and measure it out again).

Whilst Baba loved stirring all the ingredients in, little did she know her mother is absolutely clueless going freestyle in the kitchen. Still, the mixture looked OK (ish) and we put it in the oven. When the time was up, the cake looked OK (ish), just maybe a little flat. To decorate, the recipe called for icing sugar (which I had), and orange juice (which I didnt have). Hmmm. I improvised and used the juice of a tangerine and we decorated the cake.  I know, as if it wasnt bad enough already.

It was time for Babas lunch and I had promised her a piece of the cake after her lunch.  Note to all: never let your child see a cake BEFORE they have eaten their lunch.  Baba screamed throughout lunch, taking half a bite of her sandwich and then refusing to eat anymore. I had already promised her the cake.  Oh bloody hell.

And bloody hell the cake was awful. Baba didnt seem to mind too much and munched away.  I think she was just overjoyed she had got her mitts on the cake.  My poor husband muttered that he couldnt finish his piece and I just felt sick.  Clearly it makes a big difference not using the right flour, sugar and using a tangerine. Can you die from carrot cake poisoning?

I now have this vision of Baba in years to come, going to her school fete with a carrot cake her mum made and they end up using it to bat the rat or using it as a ball to knock someone off their stool so they get dowsed in water. It serves me right for not playing pretend carrot cake again!

Any recipe disasters you would like to share? Go on...make me feel a little better! Comments below please!!!

Oh, and I was going to include the recipe but I feel BBC Good Food may be offended by its inclusion!!!

weight loss during pregnancy success stories | Preschool schedule

weight loss during pregnancy success stories

“Its bad enough wasting time without killing it.”
? Norton Juster, The Phantom Tollbooth ?

Preschool... wow. In all honesty, I was really looking forward to the one-on-two time with my toddlers that preschool would give me, since my four-year old would be there for half a day. Now that weve been on the "preschool schedule" for the past couple weeks, I am looking back slightly longingly at the easy-breezy summer days!

Considering driving time, I essentially have a little over two hours while our oldest is in school. So, if I run one errand and it takes me an hour and fifteen minutes--our usual Target time-- I have 45 minutes left to... do what? I cant grocery shop in 45 minutes. I cant go home and let the toddlers nap in 45 minutes. Wherever I drive to, it will take about 10 minutes to unload and 10 minutes to reload, leaving 25 minutes to do something with two toddlers. Some days I do this accelerated shopping trip where I give myself 45 minutes in this store and 45 minutes in that store (these stops are usually for one thing, like PetsMart for dog food or Target for diapers); other days we slowly meander through whatever errand we are running that day to take up the entire 2 hours. The other day at the mall, I let both the toddlers walk. A man came up to me and grumbled, "This is ridiculous! It will take you hours to shop at this pace! Put those boys in the stroller!" First of all, Im not too sure why it bothered him so much that the boys were toddling along behind me (they were actually being surprisingly well-behaved). Second of all, that was kind of the point. The biggest problem with this awkward amount of time is that I end up sitting outside of the preschool long enough for the toddlers to take a 20- to sometimes 40- minute nap, with driving and wait time.

If you arent reading Honest Toddler, you really need to be. He opens up about "The Truth About Car Sleep" and now I finally understand why a 40-minute nap in the car means no 3-hour nap at home.?

Along the lines of "Car Sleep," having a set schedule also keeps my days flying by. We wake up, do our morning routine, spend the 2+ hours D is in preschool doing something, pick D up from preschool, go home to finish lunch, lay the toddlers down for their 3 to 3 and a half hour nap (oh, that part is deliciously sweet), then its time to make dinner and start our evening routine! Throw in evening plans two nights a week and suddenly its Thursday night and I thought it was still Tuesday! Where does the time go?

And our morning routine is horribly flawed, Ive come to realize. Im still not exactly sure how to get three kids out the door in a way that works for everyone. Either they are puffy-faced from crying or I look like I just rose from the dead. This morning was a little of both. The toddlers spent the morning stealing each others toys; the preschooler spent the morning following me around while not following directions; the dog was all over the place (I think he wanted to ride with us?). In the end, I had enough time to dab concealer under my eyes and brush my teeth and the toddlers had enough time to somehow work a fat lip in there. Im feeling like I am probably going to have to start setting an alarm and getting myself ready before all the kids wake up, instead of doing it after I get all of them dressed as I have been doing.

Perhaps Ive just come to realize that childrens school schedules are intense, even just with drop-off and pick-up. Perhaps I really can figure out a way to get us all happily out the door in the morning. Perhaps it really isnt as stressful as I think it is and Im really just stressed about my husbands crazy-busy senior year schedule (our third and final year of STA-21). Perhaps I just need a weekend away with good friends and good wine... Okay, I would even take just good friends and decent wine at this point. Whatever the reason, I need to find my stride. I feel like Im living in fast-forward!

how to lose baby weight fast | CONCEPTION RATES BETTER WHEN LAYING STILL

how to lose baby weight fast

Lay still For Conception

I recall back when I started fertility treatments, we began with inseminations.
After the procedure, they had me sit still with my legs up in the air for 15 minutes. Apparently, according to this article, there is research to suggest this does help success rates. Im sure if youre trying naturally, the same would be true. Lay still and let nature take its course! Read more:

Women who lie still for fifteen minutes after insemination, rather than getting up and walking around, are more likely to get pregnant.

Women who have artificial insemination should lie back and stay still for 15 minutes after the procedure to "significantly" increase their chances of getting pregnant, scientists recommend today.

SEE ALSO: WHY FERTILITY CHARTING MAY NOT WORK (getpregnantover40.com)

The Dutch researchers found that the pregnancy rate among women who did so was 27%, compared to 18% for for those who got straight up and moved around.

Writing in the British Medical Journal, they said clinics should offer facilities for "immobilisation", which was easy and cost very little, to allow women to lie still after insemination.

"Although immobilisation takes more time and occupies more space in busy rooms, the intervention will be economic in the long run, as pregnant patients will not return in subsequent cycles," the team, from the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam, said.

They studied 391 couples, getting 199 of the women to stay lying down and asking 192 to move around.

weight loss during second pregnancy | You know you are a twin mom when

weight loss during second pregnancy

My own list of "You know you are a mother to twins when..."

1. You automatically start calculating how long something will last.

Example 1:
"A bag of 6 apples will last the toddlers 3 days, throw in the preschooler and the husband and it will last one day with two remaining apples... Okay, 2 bags for 2 days."

Example 2:
"I want to buy this shirt for me, but it has sequins (aka baby magnets) and must hang dry... I could probably wear it twice. Lets go with this one. I wanted another plain, washable t-shirt anyways..."

2. You buy two of everything.

Two loaves of bread (which lasts about a week), two bunches of bananas (four days), two gallons of milk (almost a day and a half), two bottles of Ibuprofen (for the momma who is carrying around two 25 lb toddlers)...

3. You are always hungry.

You sit down with a bowl of oatmeal and a cup of yogurt for the toddlers along with a yogurt and piece of toast for yourself. The toddlers wolf down the oatmeal and yogurt, scream when the see you take a bite of your yogurt, so you feed them the yogurt, only to have the same thing happen with your toast... When you look at the clock, you see you are running late so you finish your coffee, get everyone dressed, and realize only once you get to the car that you had one bite of yogurt and one bite of toast for breakfast. Nice.

4. You are always late.

Why? I dont know. You set an alarm. You lay out clothes the night before. The lunches are packed and waiting in the fridge. You already have the address programmed in your GPS. No matter what you do, you always leave the house late.

5. You refer to your children in the plural, even when you only have one.

Example 1:
Stranger: "Aw, he is so cute!"
You: "Thank you. They look just like their daddy."

Example 2:
Doctor: "How long has he had this rash?"
You: "They came down with a fever on Friday, but the rash didnt show up until Monday."
Doctor: "They both have a rash?"
You: "No, only he does."

Example 3:
Friend: "How long has he been walking?"
You: "They started walking between 13 and 15 months."
Friend: "Oh, wow."
You: "Well, he started walking at 13 months and he started walking at 15 months."
Friend: "Okay..."

6. You operate like a small business, complete with business hours.

Example 1:
Your mom: "Hey, can you send me an email with so-and-sos address?"
You: "Sure. I will be on the computer from 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm. I will send it to you then."
Your mom: "Sounds... great... thanks?"

Example 2:
Friend: "We should get our kids together for a playdate!"
You: "I would love to! We are free Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, Wednesday from 10:30 am to 11:45 am, or anytime Friday if you would like to come to our place."

Example 3:
Husband: "Can you drop this off at the post office for me?"
You: "No problem! I will be at the post office next Monday or two weeks after that on Thursday..."

7. You plan your outings, much like a special forces team.

You to your husband: "Okay, we are going to leave the house at 1045, head straight to the grocery store. Ill run the Redbox in while you wait in the car with the kids. Then well head over to Petsmart. We will use a shopping cart and the Buggy Bench. You take the boys to the back and look at the fish while I get the dog food. We will be in the store for about 15 minutes. After Petsmart, well give the toddlers a snack. Well save the preschoolers snack for Target, in between trying on jeans, which he will not think is fun. At Target, well use the stroller. The best way for us to pick out and try on jeans is if you take the boys while I..."
Husbands jaw drops as you describe the layout of the boys clothes department.

8. Your family questions your sanity.

Example 1:
Your mom: "How was your day?"
You: "Really good! The boys only cried for half the day."

Example 2:
Husband, at dinner: "What did you guys do today?"
You: "Well, both of the toddlers were constipated, so we had to come home and give them some pear juice. It really seemed to help. About an hour later, they both had movements which looked like..."
Husband puts fork down.

Example 3:
Your sister: "I dont know how you do it with three."
You: "Well, the crying really doesnt bother me anymore and I just made sure to find friends that know that I will run late or cancel."

Example 4:
You, covering the mouthpiece while on the phone with the insurance company: "Baby, we dont ride our brothers like horses."
Insurance agent: "Maam? Would you like to call back?"
You: "Oh, no! Its okay."

9. You dont get embarassed while out in public, no matter what happens.

Example 1:
Store employee: "Maam, is that, um, poop... on your... shirt?"
You: "Yes. It is. Where can I find Wellness dog food?"

Example 2:
Checking out at the grocery store while one baby is systematically throwing everything he can reach from the Buggy Bench out of the shopping cart and the other is screaming at full volume in the child seat, you to the cashier: "How are you doing today?" (Big smile on your face.)
Cashier: "Um, good?"

Example 3:
One toddler is screaming pitifully in the stroller while the other toddler empties a magazine rack. You are trying to pay for the three things (and ripped magazines) you came in for. The woman in line behind you suddenly lets out that breathy sigh-- you know the one: "Oh, twiiiins? My mother is a twin..."
You, with a smile on your face: "That is wonderful! You have a blessed day! Can you guys wave bye-bye?"
The toddler in the stroller looks up at you, red faced and soaking wet with tears. The toddler at the magazine rack flings a magazine down defiantly. You smile sweetly to the now puzzled woman who is shaking her head at "parents these days" and drop your purchases in your stroller as you leave the store.

10. You have great looking arms.

Example 1:
You decide to walk into the dollar store with both toddlers, no stroller. Your plan is to use a shopping cart once inside. As you cross the parking lot, one of your toddlers decides he doesnt want to walk. The other decides he also doesnt want to walk. Meanwhile a car is waiting to drive past. You have no issue flagging that car to stop, a look on your face so severe they wouldnt have tried to drive past even if they wanted to, while you stop in the road to pick one toddler up with one arm and scoop the other toddler up with the other arm. Into the store you go with two 25 lb babies!

Example 2:
Your morning routine consists of picking one toddler up with one arm, walking to the other toddlers crib and scooping him up with the other arm. Every morning. Without issue.

post pregnancy weight loss supplements | A 30th Birthday Gift Hamper

post pregnancy weight loss supplements

At the weekend it was a very good friends surprise 30th birthday party and I was really struggling to know what to buy him.  What do you buy the guy who has everything? If you have read my previous blogs you will know that I love a gift hamper (you can see my baby shower basket here and a fathers day basket here). As our friend is a real foodie, I thought a food gift basket would be a personal and delicious present!

I popped to T K Maxx where I always pick up any baskets I need, however, after picking a basket, I then found this gorgeous pizza plate.  It is a bit of a running joke that our friend is the 16th best pizza eater in the world (he has dropped a few places in recent years), and I thought instead of a basket I could centre the gift around this plate, which to be honest I think he will use much more than a basket anyway.

I then bought a few items that I thought he would like.  As its his 30th, obviously I had to include a bottle of champagne along with some savoury and sweet treats. I then got my trusty cellophane (!) and wrapped the gift.  I got some really pretty ribbon from Hobbycraft for only 80p for a metre (I didnt realise you could buy ribbon by the metre there and it does really finish off the gift).  Heres the final present:

To wrap the entire gift I wanted something a bit personal too, so I wrapped it in plain brown paper and then I hand stamped it with little phrases, such as happy birthday and thirty. I think the overall effect looks really good and makes the present alot more individual.  I will certainly be stamping my brown wrapping paper in the future!

Thanks for reading and hope I have inspired you if you have any birthdays coming up!

Happy Monday,
