baby weight loss first week after birth | THE IMPORTANCE OF ANDROGENS FOR WOMENS FERTILITY

baby weight loss first week after birth

Pregnancy Over 40, Trying To conceive Over 40 Testosterone Needed

Many women may have a problem with an overabundance of male hormones which can lead to fertility problems.
However, some male hormones are needed for a healthy reproductive system. This article explains how androgens can actually aid in egg development:

SEE ALSO: INCREASE PROGESTERONE NATURALLY (getpregnantover40.com)

Male sex hormones, such as testosterone, have well defined roles in male reproduction and prostate cancer. What may surprise many is that they also play an important role in female fertility. A new study finds that the presence and activity of male sex hormones in the ovaries helps regulate female fertility, likely by controlling follicle growth and development and preventing deterioration of follicles that contain growing eggs.

baby weight lose girdle | VAGINAL LUBRICANTS THAT HELP SPERM

baby weight lose girdle

Getting Pregnant, Cervical Mucus and Vaginal Lubricants

Lets face it, painful intercourse doesnt help matters when youre trying to conceive.
My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
Most of us have heard that vaginal lubricants are a big no-no because they hurt sperm (even if they dont contain ingredients classified as spermicides).
This article discusses the research in that area along with one recommendation for a sperm friendly lubricant. Read more:

Additionally, a common misconception is that if a lubricant does not contain a spermicide or if it is water soluble, it will not impair sperm function. Unfortunately, this is completely inaccurate. Water based lubricants often have glycerin (which has been shown to be toxic to sperm) and propylene glycol both of which are highly hyperosmotic.

This results in irreversible damage to sperm and a loss in motility after exposure to commercial lubricants. Damage to sperm and subsequent inability of the sperm to penetrate into the cervix following contact with lubricants may prevent conception in some couples, resulting in consequences such as undesired childlessness, or the advancement to more invasive advanced reproduction technologies (all of which carry added economic costs and medical risks). If there is any evidence that a vaginal lubricant can interfere or limit a couples fertility, it should carry a warning label to avoid its use while trying to conceive, and testing needs to be established by the FDA for any products that claim to not harm sperm.

See Also: Improving Cervical Mucus (www.getpregnantover40.com)

In contrast, Pre~Seed "sperm-friendly" Intimate Moisturizer was developed in response to the need for a product to replenish vaginal moisture without harming sperm while couples were trying to conceive. Each lot is tested to not harm sperm before it is sold. So if you are trying to conceive, know the facts about vaginal lubricants. They damage sperm and should be avoided. If you need help with dryness, as many couples do, Pre~Seed was developed by a Sperm Physiologist and has several studies presented at National Reproductive Meetings suggesting its "sperm-friendly" nature.

pregnancy weight loss first week | REPORTER HAS BABIES AT 40 43 AND 45

pregnancy weight loss first week

The article I have linked to below talks about how women may actually make new eggs in their ovaries.  Contrary to what most of the literature has claimed, that women may run out of "good" eggs, new research may be proving that wrong. This reporter had babies at 40, 43 and 45 and advocates a healthy lifestyle to preserve egg quality.

SEE ALSO: WOMEN WHO HAD A NATURAL PREGNANCY OVER 50 (getpregnantover40.com)

From the article:

It may sound simple and in theory it is. Its the practice that lets us down. Its generations of women who have this notion of menopause and you can only have a baby until youre 40 or 45 or whatever your lineage of females led you to believe and etched into your evolutionary DNA. The magic is we can change that - with only a quantum leap in consciousness, perhaps.
The more intact and toxin-free the environment the egg follicle grows in, the better the quality of the egg. Fertility experts all seem to agree on this. Much of the food we eat is so processed it isnt even real food anymore. This causes inflammation in the body and bang goes our egg health. Its impossible of course to be toxin-free in todays world and the older you are the more accumulated toxins you have. Hence the old eggs theory. By the way sperm are exposed to far too many modern day toxins as well and they carry half the DNA for a baby. So blame the fertility crisis on the guys too please.
Fact remains we are being misled concerning the sell-by date of our eggs and it has cost us dearly: Panic over egg reserve, money spent on tests and expensive treatments and decisions which may have been taken differently had we known otherwise. With stress hormones blocking the receptors of pregnancy hormones and negative thoughts about age, the body does one thing. It shuts down the baby making department. The mind has a huge impact on how every cell in the body functions. We are only just beginning to understand the magnitude of this.

pregnancy weight loss tracker | Its all about that blood

pregnancy weight loss tracker

I know, I know, not my most catchy-ish of titles, but it was this or some other dodgy blood related one!! So, first off, this isnt some gruesome tale that involves alot of blood and gore, sorry if thats what you were after (!). This is the tale of me and my experience going to donate blood for the very first time. There are no dodgy photos and this isnt a preachy blog post urging you to go and do it. If you fancy reading about my experience of giving blood, or, if you have ever thought of donating before but havent been sure, then this is the blog post for you. Now we have cleared all of that up, lets get started!

Back in December, in the midst of my blogging every day for Blogmas, I pledged to go and give blood. I wanted to go and do something for someone else during a season when it can feel a bit over commercial. I wanted to do something that would actually make a difference to someone else and hopefully show my daughter that Christmas isnt all about the presents. Ahhh, me and my bright ideas. My well laid plans certainly did not go to plan (they rarely do), and I found myself, after a week of worry, being turned away at the donor centre because the blood donation session was full!!! Argh! You can read all about that little escapade here.

Now I am not going to lie.  Giving blood worried me.  This was no walk in the park for me.  But dont you find that those moments that you feel most challenged by are sometimes the moments that you look back on and feel the proudest of? This felt like it could be one of those moments. And did you know that giving blood can save up to three lives? Fact.

I had already signed up to the blood donation website where you can find out your local times and venues, and when one popped up near my home, I felt I had to go and do it. The very moment I clicked book, my nerves returned. As with most things in life, the thought of doing something is way worse than the actual event. (Hmmm, maybe with the exception of child birth?!) And as someone with a very over active imagination, I had already imagined the worst.  I imagined fainting, of my arm dropping off, of being sick all over the nurse - a bit like in the exorcist, of falling off the chair and other such completely believable scenarios (!!!).

The big day finally came and I arrived very nervous.  As I had booked my session online this time there was no chance of me being turned away. I registered at the desk and went to take a seat in the waiting area.  When you book an appointment online they send you all the paperwork through the post and it saves time filling the forms out when you arrive.  I had to drink a big cup of water to help replace the fluids I would lose during the donation and during this time my two year old daughter performed a rendition of chim-chim-cheree from Mary Poppins which was nice. (N.B. I cant guarantee she will be there for you if you donate, but I am considering hiring her out for the waiting room!).

Next, I was called into a private area and was asked questions to screen if I was suitable to give blood.   My finger was pricked to test my iron levels. A drop of my blood was placed into a copper sulphate solution and if it sinks to the bottom it shows you iron levels are OK for you to donate. (And you know this bit doesnt really hurt because Im taking pictures at the same time!!).

However, I wont get too cocky as my ability to then take a good picture of my drop of blood sinking in the tube was a fail!! Sorry for the poor quality. I felt I had to include this photograph as the lovely nurse did the test twice for me so I could get a good shot!!!

After the test I went out to sit on a couch and I was placed in a semi-upright position ready for the donation.  A blood pressure cuff was placed around my arm to maintain a little bit of pressure and then the nurse found a good vein. Obviously you can feel a pinching sensation, but really, it was nothing.

I wont lie.  I didnt look down at my arm once.  I just didnt want to see it.  But I can honestly say, it was absolutely fine!!! Yes, there was a little bit of pressure of my arm, but that was literally it.  I didnt feel faint, I wasnt in pain and I didnt feel sick.  They ask you to do several exercises during your donation to help reduce your risk of fainting, like clenching your hand, clenching your bum cheeks (!) and moving your feet.  Obviously not one to risk fainting and erring on the side of caution I clenched away like my life depended on it!

The process of actually having the blood taken took about five to ten minutes.  That is all!!! I thought I was going to be hooked up all day! It really was over before I knew it and I had donated just under a pint. And then its the bit you all know is coming, I was escorted to have a well earned drink and a bourbon biscuit.

Apart from having a bit of a sore arm for the rest of the day, I felt absolutely fine.  The staff were really a credit to the blood service. From checking in to the actual donation, they couldnt have been nicer. And you know what? Everyone thanked me for going to give my blood.  Even on my way out, a nurse who I hadnt seen said thank you to me for attending.  How absolutely lovely.  I mean I didnt want a red carpet and an award or anything, but feeling like you have done something great, well, it makes you feel great.

I dont want this post to come across as preachy or to make you feel like you have to go and give blood.  Its a personal and individual choice. All I will say is that if you are even considering it, then go and do it. Coming from someone who worried for a whole week about this, it was absolutely fine and I will definitely be going back to donate again. You can find the UK Give Blood website here where you can find out more and find your local sessions. And what better way to start the year than to donate blood to help someone, somewhere, who really needs it?

"When you give blood you give another birthday,
another anniversary,
another day at the beach,
another night under the stars,
another talk with a friend,
another laugh,
another hug,
another chance",

baby weight loss first week | HERBS THAT MAY HURT FERTILITY

baby weight loss first week

Pregnancy and Fertility Over 40 With Herbs

Much has been written about how herbs can help fertility for both men and women. However, not all herbs are helpful, and some can hurt.
Some herbs like St. Johns Wort, Echinacea, and Gingko Biloba may actually hurt fertility. One of the reasons I didnt go the "herbal route" (aside from some herbal teas) when trying to conceive is just because herbs are "natural", it doesnt always mean theyre safe. I have a friend who wound up in the ER with an irregular heartbeat after taking herbs (this wasnt someone trying to conceive) - but it just goes to show you that you have to be careful.

Read more about both side of the issue:

SEE ALSO: HERBS FOR FERTILITY AND PREGNANCY (getpregnantover40.com)

"some herbal remedies may also be expected to interfere with normal reproductive function. This expectation prompted researchers at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, Calif., to explore the effects of four popular herbs on eggs and sperm. Their findings were published in the current issue of Fertility and Sterility, the journal of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Three of the herbs, St. Johns wort, Echinacea purpura and Ginkgo biloba, had ill effects on either eggs or sperm or both. The damage, the researchers said, included a reduced ability of sperm to penetrate an egg, changes to the genetic material in sperm, poor sperm viability and, in the case of St. Johns wort, mutation of the tumor suppressor gene, BRCA1, a change that can increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancers in women who inherit the mutated gene.
Of the herbs tested, only saw palmetto, which is commonly taken by men to relieve the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, did not damage eggs or sperm in the doses tested. But even saw palmetto reduced the viability of sperm that were exposed to the herbal preparation for seven days.
The journals editor, Dr. Alan H. DeCherney, said, This is a very important study that could provide important information to patients suffering from infertility. He added, The growing popularity of these herbal products means we must examine all their possible effects.

pregnancy after weight loss surgery forum | The one about boobs

pregnancy after weight loss surgery forum

Ahh boobs. Theyre everywhere arent they?  Almost daily they are in the press. From a woman apparently waving them around her head in a posh restaurant whilst breastfeeding, to a woman breastfeeding in the swimming baths or maybe even the ten year old that is still breastfed. Then there are the mums who dare not to use their boobs to feed their baby. And then theres the mums that dare do.  The women whos tops are too low.  The woman who has no boobs. The woman who has huge boobs. And if you havent quite had enough of boobs yet, theres always page three where you can see pictures of them, just so you definitely know what they look like. Today, I heard on the news that the British tabloid, The Sun, are no longer going to be printing pictures of topless women on their page three, and you know what? I actually felt compelled to write a blog post to mark the occasion.

The Sun newspaper, apparently (thanks Google), has a daily circulation of around 2.2 million copies.  Thats alot of copies. Thats alot of readers.  What I find interesting is that up until this week, you could open this newspaper and see a picture of a topless woman.  And for me, it really isnt about the page three model.  If you want to model with your top off, then thats your free choice and decision. Page three to me, represented boobs as being primarily for male gratification.

I find it funny that some men (not all) are happy to stare at boobs in a newspaper, but at the same time they are agog when you use one to actually nourish and feed an infant. Especially near Nigel Farage.  And for the record, as a mum who breastfed, I can honestly say I never once stood up in a restaurant and waved them about for all to see. Quite frankly, I have no intention of showing the world my boobs, and even if I wanted to, I didnt have the time, I had a screaming baby wanting to be fed.

The same men overlook the bit about that boob providing everything a baby needs for the first six months of that little ones life.  That makes boobs pretty amazing to me. Alot more amazing than just getting them out. But its not just about breastfeeding.  Page three, to me, represents the notion that boobs are there to be leered at.  It represents those wolf whistles you get on the street, those comments when you are out and when you dont know where to look. That notion that you are just a body.  The notion that all you are is how you look.

Will this mark a change in peoples views of the female body? I think changing page three will change nothing overnight, but I hope it goes some way to society seeing the person beyond the boobs. And maybe, just maybe, it starts the way for woman to no longer be objectified by society.  That woman arent just boobs. In fact we arent just anything.

How would I even begin to explain page three to my toddler? Well, I just wouldnt. But what I do hope for my daughter is that when she is older, she can walk down the street without wolf whistles, without feeling embarrassed. I hope she can feel respected by society as the clever and intelligent girl that I know she will be.  So much more than her appearance.  And so so much more than a pair of boobs.

baby weight loss formula | EMBRYOS THAT DIDNT MAKE IT THROUGH IVF

baby weight loss formula

Pregnancy Over 40, Fertility Treatments, Embryos and Miscarriage

Not exactly the family portrait youd have hanging on the living room wall. Yes, these are all my children - none of whom are with us now.
They either didnt survive in the petrie dish or I miscarried them. I found these pictures when I was going through my file cabinet and came across my "fertility file". Wow, what a flood of emotions came cascading down when I found these. I also had a stack about an inch thick of old medical bills associated with my fertility treatments - about $25,000 in total (thankfully all paid).

See Also: Do you need IVF Over 40? (www.getpregnantover40.com)

All of this just reminded me what a bad decision it was for me to go the "high tech" route. When I see these pictures, it seems like I somehow I assaulted mother nature. These eggs were forced to grow with injections of fertility drugs and extracted with surgery, machinery and needles. It almost seems like something out of an alien abduction.

In all fairness, I know plenty of people who have pictures similar to these and they did indeed become their beautiful children. So, its not mad science. Its just now that I have the benefit of hindsight, I see how I just needed to work with mother nature, and not try to by-pass or outsmart her.

baby weight loss gain | RECONNECTING WITH FELLOW INFERTILE WOMAN

baby weight loss gain

Oh wow, what a surprise today!  I previously ran an infertility support group for my local infertility organization. That was years ago and most of the women in the group have long since had their children and moved on to different phases of their life.

Well the strangest thing happened today as it was the first day of school.  I was at the parent orientation and saw a woman who looked familiar, but couldnt place her.  As I looked at her, it finally dawned on me where I had seen her before.  She was in my infertility support group.  At the time (years ago) we were two of the oldest people in the group.  We were both in our 40s.

SEE ALSO: PREGNANCY OVER 40 (Getpregnantover40.com)

She became pregnant before me (she succeeding in becoming pregnant with some minor fertility treatments) and had her baby six months before my daughter was born.  I had not seen her in years, but her name came to me when I finally realized she was a fellow support group attendee.  I had to remind her how we knew each other and I whispered in her ear "fertility support group" to maintain confidentiality (even after all these years, I dont discuss these things openly).

As it turns out, her son and my daughter will be attending the same school. It really is a small world and when I saw her, a flood of memories came back (and not all good ones!)  It reminded me how far we all have come from those painful days of wanting a baby and some dark moments of thinking it will never happen.  But look at us now....weve both accomplished our goals and those trying to conceive days are a distant memory....even though we were well into our 40s when we finally got pregnant, we still had and have a whole life ahead of us.

My message to you if you are in the throes of infertility and or recurrent miscarriage, is that the vast majority of women succeed in having a child.  Past failure does not predict future results.  You can do this too!  Babies come on their own schedule and now that I have my daughter, I can see that the timing was perfect.  There was no way for me to know that at the time I was stuck in infertility quicksand, but I do see it now.  You are no different.  You will accomplish your goal.

post pregnancy weight loss supplements | A 30th Birthday Gift Hamper

post pregnancy weight loss supplements

At the weekend it was a very good friends surprise 30th birthday party and I was really struggling to know what to buy him.  What do you buy the guy who has everything? If you have read my previous blogs you will know that I love a gift hamper (you can see my baby shower basket here and a fathers day basket here). As our friend is a real foodie, I thought a food gift basket would be a personal and delicious present!

I popped to T K Maxx where I always pick up any baskets I need, however, after picking a basket, I then found this gorgeous pizza plate.  It is a bit of a running joke that our friend is the 16th best pizza eater in the world (he has dropped a few places in recent years), and I thought instead of a basket I could centre the gift around this plate, which to be honest I think he will use much more than a basket anyway.

I then bought a few items that I thought he would like.  As its his 30th, obviously I had to include a bottle of champagne along with some savoury and sweet treats. I then got my trusty cellophane (!) and wrapped the gift.  I got some really pretty ribbon from Hobbycraft for only 80p for a metre (I didnt realise you could buy ribbon by the metre there and it does really finish off the gift).  Heres the final present:

To wrap the entire gift I wanted something a bit personal too, so I wrapped it in plain brown paper and then I hand stamped it with little phrases, such as happy birthday and thirty. I think the overall effect looks really good and makes the present alot more individual.  I will certainly be stamping my brown wrapping paper in the future!

Thanks for reading and hope I have inspired you if you have any birthdays coming up!

Happy Monday,
