pregnancy weight loss forum | SECONDARY INFERTILITY REASONS EXPLAINED

pregnancy weight loss forum

Secondary infertility is a common problem and I hear from women all the time who have had one child but cant get pregnant with their second. Not only are these women frustrated because they cant get pregnant, but they find little support because women who are experiencing primary infertility feel they should be happy that they at least have one child. Here is an article that explains some reasons why women may experience secondary infertility:

There can be medical causes of SI, says West. "The thyroid is always something we check. Birth can put the thyroid out of kilter." Anwen, a woman in her 40s, tried for five years to have a second child. "I had my daughter when I was 30," she says, "which, at the time, seemed very early. I was the first among all our friends to have a baby." She decided to try for a second when her daughter was three. "But a year went by and nothing happened. I went to the GP and he told me not to worry. If youve already given birth, there wont be a problem, he said. But my daughter turned five and I still wasnt pregnant." Eventually, Anwen persuaded her GP to refer her to a fertility consultant who, after some simple investigations, informed her she had polycystic ovarian syndrome. "He said Id probably had
it all my life and that my daughter was an amazing one-off. I had no idea that anything was wrong." She was given a prescription for the fertility drug Clomid; two months later, she conceived her son.

pregnancy weight loss first week | REPORTER HAS BABIES AT 40 43 AND 45

pregnancy weight loss first week

The article I have linked to below talks about how women may actually make new eggs in their ovaries.  Contrary to what most of the literature has claimed, that women may run out of "good" eggs, new research may be proving that wrong. This reporter had babies at 40, 43 and 45 and advocates a healthy lifestyle to preserve egg quality.

From the article:

It may sound simple and in theory it is. Its the practice that lets us down. Its generations of women who have this notion of menopause and you can only have a baby until youre 40 or 45 or whatever your lineage of females led you to believe and etched into your evolutionary DNA. The magic is we can change that - with only a quantum leap in consciousness, perhaps.
The more intact and toxin-free the environment the egg follicle grows in, the better the quality of the egg. Fertility experts all seem to agree on this. Much of the food we eat is so processed it isnt even real food anymore. This causes inflammation in the body and bang goes our egg health. Its impossible of course to be toxin-free in todays world and the older you are the more accumulated toxins you have. Hence the old eggs theory. By the way sperm are exposed to far too many modern day toxins as well and they carry half the DNA for a baby. So blame the fertility crisis on the guys too please.
Fact remains we are being misled concerning the sell-by date of our eggs and it has cost us dearly: Panic over egg reserve, money spent on tests and expensive treatments and decisions which may have been taken differently had we known otherwise. With stress hormones blocking the receptors of pregnancy hormones and negative thoughts about age, the body does one thing. It shuts down the baby making department. The mind has a huge impact on how every cell in the body functions. We are only just beginning to understand the magnitude of this.

pregnancy weight loss diet plan | WOMAN 45 HAS BABY AFTER UTERINE DEFORMITY

pregnancy weight loss diet plan

Pregnancy Over 40, It wasnt the menopause, it was a miracle

Ill warn you right up front, the following article is a little scary, and it made me a little angry to read it. Its about a 45 year old woman who became unexpectedly pregnant (after she was told that a uterine deformity would render her infertile) and since doctors never considered the possibility of pregnancy, they put her through a multitude of tests exposing her to drugs, radiation and the list goes on.
The moral of the story is, 45 year olds do get pregnant - even against the odds. Somehow, the medical community needs to realize that and take precautions just like they would with any other woman! Just because youre in your forties doesnt mean that you are not of "child bearing age". Read more:

From the article:

On Friday, September 10, 1999, I saw another doctor. She suspected a large uterine or ovarian tumour and sent me for an emergency CAT scan. Afterwards, I fell asleep in the waiting area. Mrs Cohen. Someone was shaking my shoulder.

Mrs Cohen. We did find something in you. We found a baby.

Since my identity is predicated on my infertility, the statement made no more sense than if hed said: Mrs Cohen, we discovered that youre a man. Or: Mrs Cohen, we found out that youre black. Obviously, it was a dream.

In shock, I said: What do you mean a baby? They brought me to the ultrasound room to see for myself.

baby losing weight in utero | PREGNANCY OUTCOMES GOOD 45 AND OLDER

Getting Pregnant At 45 And Older - Good Outcomes

I have cited a study below which concludes that pregnancy in "older" women has generally good outcomes for mother and baby.
The study states that this is reassuring for women age 45 and older. Read more:

SEE ALSO: PREGNANCY COMPLICATIONS AND BIRTH DEFECTS OVER 40 (getpregnantover40.com)

RESULTS: Seventy-seven pregnancies in 76 women aged 45 years and over were registered in the 10-year period. There were 74 liveborn singletons, two sets of liveborn twins and one set of twins stillborn at 20 weeks gestation. Sixteen women were primiparous. Eighty-four percent of pregnancies were conceived naturally and 53% underwent prenatal chromosomal determination; 53% of women had no pre-existing medical problems, 13% had hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and 8% of women developed gestational diabetes. There were 10 preterm and six post dates deliveries. The Caesarean section rate was 49%, compared to 23% in the 20-29 years age group (P < 0.001). Ten percent of neonates were small for gestational age, and 8% were large for gestational age. Seventeen percent required admission to the special care nursery and 6% had congenital abnormalities.

CONCLUSIONS: Maternal and neonatal outcomes in this series were generally good. There was a significantly increased rate of Caesarean section. Overall, this study is reassuring for women aged 45 and over who have good general health and a chromosomally normal fetus.

baby losing weight in womb | FIBROIDS FERTILITY AND HYPERTENSION

baby losing weight in womb

Fibroids Can Lead To Fertility Problems

Ive heard about the many problems which may be caused by high blood pressure in both men and women.  Hypertension is especially worrisome both when trying to conceive and in pregnancy. Here is another interesting association between high blood pressure and fibroids. Its especially worthy of note to me because when I worked in the corporate pressure cooker, I did frequently have high blood pressure readings and I had fibroids (which I later had removed). Also interesting is that since I quit my high stress job years ago, Ive always had normal gynecological exams (even though fibroids can recur). Fibroids, in some cases can lead to fertility problems as well.  And, by the way, my blood pressure is now always normal!

SEE ALSO: STRESS INFERTILITY AND MISCARRIAGE (getpregnantover40.com)

Read more:

Fibroids are common among women of reproductive age. Estimates are that as many as 25 percent of women in the United States have symptoms that suggest they may have fibroids. These non-cancerous tumors grow within the uterine wall, and appear either as a single tumor or in clusters.

Symptoms include heavy bleeding or painful periods, bleeding between periods, a feeling of fullness in the lower abdomen, a need to urinate often, painful sex, lower back pain, and reproductive problems like infertility or recurrent miscarriages.2

Though fibroids arent unusual, Rosalind Wright, MD, an assistant professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and a team of researchers wrote that little is known about what factors underlie their development. But high blood pressure may be a culprit, they hypothesized. "Elevated diastolic blood pressure may increase fibroid risk though uterine smooth muscle injury, not unlike atherosclerosis," Wright and her colleagues wrote.

How did the researchers make that link? Its well known that people with high blood pressure are at increased risk of developing atherosclerosis, a disease characterized by hardening and narrowing of the arteries due to the formation of plaque.3 These lesions of plaque are made of fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste products and calcium, among other things.4 In high blood pressure, studies have suggested that abnormal changes occur in the smooth muscle cells that line the interior of arteries.3 Smooth muscle cells also make up the uterine wall.
