pregnancy weight loss before and after | Sparrows Birthday Dolly Part 1

pregnancy weight loss before and after

Here she is! The sewing project that I was working on this past week!  A very special little baby bird, Sparrow Song Mathis, had her first birthday party yesterday and to celebrate I made her this dolly.  Not only was it a day to celebrate her birthday, it was also the 1 year anniversary of her coming out of her first open heart surgery. It was a double celebration! Every girl needs a handmade friend to have adventures and tea parties with, dont they?  ;)

I had the most enjoyable and fun time crafting this pretty little thing.  I looked around online and found a few dolls that I liked, picked out some vintage fabrics that I had in my collection and made my own pattern. The ribbons and trims are from my grandma on Sams side of the family. She gave me a few bags full of sewing goodies last Christmas that she had from the 50s and 60s. It was fabulous! Im thinking about making a few more of these little beauties. Maybe even a little boy one, with suspenders for Káel!? Eeee! I used to make dolls all the time, before I moved away to school, got married and became a mommy. Im kinda thinking that it might make a comeback in my life. ;)

I took some pictures along the way, as I stitched and pinned, so you could see.  Tomorrow, Ill be posting a few more pictures of her, in another outfit that I made, especially for the birthday girls party and some pictures of Sparrow opening her surprise!!! Enjoy beauties!

I just guessed and tweaked my drawn on pattern as I went. No mistakes in creating...just happy accidents. ;)

The easiest way to sew doll arms and legs is to trace or draw your pattern directly onto the fabric, pin and then sew along the lines...THEN cut them out. It will take you several more frustrated minutes if you cut it out before you stitch it up.

This sewing machine has been my friend since I was 13. Kenmores are my fav.

Her little, long, lanky plaid legs. A yard of fabric I found several months ago at a thrift mall.

Pin with her legs and arms inside, stitch her and then turn her right side out! I added a about a 1/3 cup of rice in her bottom so she would be weighted a little.
I added a little rosette the night before the party...She needed a flower in her hair. ;)

I have never made doll clothes from felt before, it was pretty simple. I love this little 60s style shrug!

Fall boots...its going to get cold soon.
Sparrows  mom and dad both have tattoos and I thought it would be kinda cool to tie that in. I had seen another amazing doll have something similar and I went for it. Its one of my favorite things about her.

I hope you enjoyed watching my creative process! I cant wait to show you tomorrows post! Have a very pretty day.

pregnancy weight loss stalled | First day at Pre School

pregnancy weight loss stalled

On Wednesday afternoon I took my little baby to pre-school for the very first time.  My little baby who is actually nearly three.  Normally, I have some funny incident or observation to blog, but as we both made our way from the car to pre-school my heart felt very full. Surprisingly, I didnt feel sad. I felt so immensely proud of this amazing little person stood next to me and swinging her Frozen bag and marching to the pre-school gates (I had tried to coax her towards choosing another bag seeing as though all 20 pre-school children will probably have the same, but never mind).

She settled really well, and as I returned to an empty house, I thought I might shed a tear. But I didnt. I had only that morning finished reading Gretchen Rubins Happier At Home.  Her closing chapter is on the passage of time and how we always tend to assume that in the future we will be happier, when in fact when we look back through the years, we yearn for those moments past. Here and right now are the happy days.  So, with that in mind, I didnt mourn for my little baby.  I didnt feel sad about the long days past that I used to sit feeding her (OK, maybe I did a little bit). I instead tried to focus on how my little girl has grown into the most wonderful little girl. I hope this day stays in my memory forever.  Of us holding hands.  Of our nervous excitement as we entered the doors.

As I collected her and she showed me her painting that she had done, my heart was full again.  I want to keep this day with me. Of how proud I felt.  Of how she is truly amazing.  And of how the love I have for her is indescribable.

I feel whilst there may be blog posts to come about our adventures and more likely mis-adventures in pre-school land, today I wanted to capture what I felt for my wonderful daughter.  We returned home and my daughter danced round with her pants on her head to Frozen.  The perfect day.

"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering”,

pregnancy weight loss meal plan | A Forest Pirates Birthday

pregnancy weight loss meal plan

Sam just finished editing the video from Káels 1st birthday party, yesterday! Isnt he AMAZING!?!? Thanks babe! Im SO excited about it! It was a Forest Pirate themed day, with a treasure hunt, water fun and goodies, buried in the sand for all the kids to discover. We were overwhelmed with love as a ton of our friends came out to party with us and jump into the mood of "aaaargh" and "ahoy mate!" Our parents came out and even my Gran, all the way from Dallas. I love my family. A huge love thanks and shout to our amazing community family, thank you for making his day unforgettable!   Ill be posting some REALLY precious pics later in the week of details from the party, but in the meantime, here are some little snippets for you to enjoy!

post pregnancy weight loss after c section | Sparrows Birthday Dolly Part 2

post pregnancy weight loss after c section

So, the night before the party, while I was up making Sparrows dolly some green boots, (to see Part 1 post click HERE) I noticed some pretty tule fabric in my bag from Sams grandma.  I knew that Sparrow would be wearing a pink, girly tu-tu dress with pink, sparkly, Tiny Toms at her birthday bash.  Thats when a thought was dropped into my mind by the sewing fairies! ;) She needs a ballerina outfit! YES! My girly colors where flying, as I sat there on the couch, making the cutest little vintage tu-tu with a pale blue ribbon to tie it off at the back of the waist. Then came the slippers. Sigh. After I was finished, I decided to dress her in this dancer outfit  and wrap her coat and boots separately.

Jessie, Sparrows mommy, is one of my dearest friends and one of the most creative people that I know. She uses pages of old story books for cards and sweet notes. Ive been adopting this practice  ever since she gave me one, after Káel was born last year.  I found this connect the dot page from a childrens activity book, from 1954 and thought it would be perfect! I wrote our message along the lines... *squeal* :) Next time you are at the thrift store and you see a 40 cent old childrens book...grab it and try this sweet little idea out on a friend. :)
Btw, I almost NEVER use wrapping paper to wrap a gift. I always figure using some pretty fabric is more fun and quaint. Then, whoever is receiving the gift can reuse it for a project or another gift! :) Old sheets are a great, cheap idea. Thats what I used for this.
Reading her card. Um...excuse me, but do you see what she is wearing!? Look at that little princess headdress? Paaaaaalease!!! When I walked into their house, I squealed so loud! She was her mommys daughter. Feather funk and all!

They meet for the first time. It was precious.

Seeing her open up her present and smile, with that sweet little miss smirk, made my heart soar to heaven. I have tears in my eyes right now, just thinking about last year and all the prayers and tears we all shared with Jessie and her family as Sparrow, the miracle baby, came out of her first surgery, strong and brave. Sparrow had another open heart surgery 3 months later and will have one more when she is around 3. She is a total kiss from Jesus and I adore her with all my heart! Many of you may remember reading my post, where I talked about her story. If you havent read it and would like to you can click here to read the beginning of her story and HERE! This little darlin is the toughest, sweetest sugar ever!

Happy birthday little bird. I love you so much!

pregnancy weight loss symptom | Teenager birthday gift ideas

pregnancy weight loss symptom

I sometimes find that buying birthday presents for teenagers can be a little bit tricky. Not yet an adult but certainly not a child, teenagers are in that middle ground.  Besides the obligatory gift voucher or money in a card, thinking of a present for a teenager can take a little bit of creative thought! This week, it was my beautiful nieces 14th birthday and upon asking her what she wanted as a gift and her replying that she didnt mind, I set to work on creating her gift. Gulp!

But first, lets just appreciate the ribbon. How cute is this ribbon? I picked it up from Hobbycraft and thought it was a lovely finishing touch to the present! I adore putting ribbon round presents.  I know some people may think its a waste of time, but for me it really brings a present together and I always think how lovely it is to receive a beautifully wrapped present.  A metre normally costs around 50p - £1 so I always like to add it when I can.  But, onto whats inside!

I picked up this gorgeous little suitcase from a little shop called Yellowstone at Trentham Gardens in Stoke-on-Trent (if you ever go near here, you MUST check this amazing boutique out).  The case was in the childrens section, but I thought this was ideal to hold lots of little gifts, and it is something my niece can hopefully use for storing things inside after her birthday.  Inside the case I then individually gift wrapped little presents.  Presents within a present are always a winner for me! I wrapped a gift voucher for her favourite shop and some hair accessories. She also adores cats, so I found this really cute little cat milk jug.

I also picked up this Ted Baker mini-body spray.  I always struggle with what beauty bits and pieces to get her, but I thought she would like the smell of this as it isnt as strong as a perfume but still has a pretty and sweet smell.

And that was her little gift case.  Simple, but a bit more than your usual gift voucher.  I hope she loves it and I really enjoyed choosing her gifts within a gift.  I just cant believe she is 14 already!!! I hope this post gives you some inspiration for any teenagers you have to buy for and you can tailor the little gifts to their likes and interests.

Have you got teenagers you need to buy gifts for? Any tips on picking gifts?

Thanks for reading,
