pregnancy weight loss stalled | First day at Pre School

pregnancy weight loss stalled

On Wednesday afternoon I took my little baby to pre-school for the very first time.  My little baby who is actually nearly three.  Normally, I have some funny incident or observation to blog, but as we both made our way from the car to pre-school my heart felt very full. Surprisingly, I didnt feel sad. I felt so immensely proud of this amazing little person stood next to me and swinging her Frozen bag and marching to the pre-school gates (I had tried to coax her towards choosing another bag seeing as though all 20 pre-school children will probably have the same, but never mind).

She settled really well, and as I returned to an empty house, I thought I might shed a tear. But I didnt. I had only that morning finished reading Gretchen Rubins Happier At Home.  Her closing chapter is on the passage of time and how we always tend to assume that in the future we will be happier, when in fact when we look back through the years, we yearn for those moments past. Here and right now are the happy days.  So, with that in mind, I didnt mourn for my little baby.  I didnt feel sad about the long days past that I used to sit feeding her (OK, maybe I did a little bit). I instead tried to focus on how my little girl has grown into the most wonderful little girl. I hope this day stays in my memory forever.  Of us holding hands.  Of our nervous excitement as we entered the doors.

As I collected her and she showed me her painting that she had done, my heart was full again.  I want to keep this day with me. Of how proud I felt.  Of how she is truly amazing.  And of how the love I have for her is indescribable.

I feel whilst there may be blog posts to come about our adventures and more likely mis-adventures in pre-school land, today I wanted to capture what I felt for my wonderful daughter.  We returned home and my daughter danced round with her pants on her head to Frozen.  The perfect day.

"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering”,

pregnancy weight loss symptom | Teenager birthday gift ideas

pregnancy weight loss symptom

I sometimes find that buying birthday presents for teenagers can be a little bit tricky. Not yet an adult but certainly not a child, teenagers are in that middle ground.  Besides the obligatory gift voucher or money in a card, thinking of a present for a teenager can take a little bit of creative thought! This week, it was my beautiful nieces 14th birthday and upon asking her what she wanted as a gift and her replying that she didnt mind, I set to work on creating her gift. Gulp!

But first, lets just appreciate the ribbon. How cute is this ribbon? I picked it up from Hobbycraft and thought it was a lovely finishing touch to the present! I adore putting ribbon round presents.  I know some people may think its a waste of time, but for me it really brings a present together and I always think how lovely it is to receive a beautifully wrapped present.  A metre normally costs around 50p - £1 so I always like to add it when I can.  But, onto whats inside!

I picked up this gorgeous little suitcase from a little shop called Yellowstone at Trentham Gardens in Stoke-on-Trent (if you ever go near here, you MUST check this amazing boutique out).  The case was in the childrens section, but I thought this was ideal to hold lots of little gifts, and it is something my niece can hopefully use for storing things inside after her birthday.  Inside the case I then individually gift wrapped little presents.  Presents within a present are always a winner for me! I wrapped a gift voucher for her favourite shop and some hair accessories. She also adores cats, so I found this really cute little cat milk jug.

I also picked up this Ted Baker mini-body spray.  I always struggle with what beauty bits and pieces to get her, but I thought she would like the smell of this as it isnt as strong as a perfume but still has a pretty and sweet smell.

And that was her little gift case.  Simple, but a bit more than your usual gift voucher.  I hope she loves it and I really enjoyed choosing her gifts within a gift.  I just cant believe she is 14 already!!! I hope this post gives you some inspiration for any teenagers you have to buy for and you can tailor the little gifts to their likes and interests.

Have you got teenagers you need to buy gifts for? Any tips on picking gifts?

Thanks for reading,

after pregnancy weight loss plan | Father Day Gift Ideas

after pregnancy weight loss plan

It is that time of the year again where we scratch our heads and ponder what on Earth to buy our beloved Dads for Fathers Day. These wonderful men in our lives are notoriously tricky to buy for, they say they have everything they need, but we never do listen because this is the day to celebrate Dads everywhere. So ponder no more and have a little browse of these Fathers Day treats.

I did a post last year regarding Fathers Day gift ideas, so if you have a father who is a foodie, movie buff, or you are stuck for a present from the little ones, have a little look at my original Fathers Day Gift Ideas and see what takes your fancy.

Another great present is by Penwizard who have personalised books where you can even turn Dad into a character from Peppa Pig! You can have a peek at our finished personalised Penwizard book and see the book which was a big, big hit! Penwizard also have an offer at the moment where you can save £3 on books by using the code: MYDADDY at the checkout, and, if you order by 15th June they will guarantee delivery by Fathers Day.

Continuing with the personalised theme, I am loving this set of 6 personalised coasters by Boots photo.  We have just returned from New York with my parents, so I had some really great photos of us all.  I wanted something a bit different than framing the photographs or putting them on a canvas, so I designed these coasters with my photographs.  Its really quick and simple to do and the quality is fantastic. I ordered them on a Sunday and they were delivered by the Wednesday.  After comparing prices on the internet, these were also the cheapest as they were £9.99 for a set of six different photographs. I think these will be a big hit, and will hopefully bring a smile to my Dads face when he sits down for his cup of tea.  Boots Photo currently have a 10% discount on all orders over £10 and will guarantee to deliver by Fathers Day if you order by Monday 15th June.

For the keen gardener, how about this little gift hamper? I bought the box from the pound shop (amazing!), and then I just shopped around to fill it with little goodies.  Inside is a pair of leather gardening gloves, some garden twine, garden scissors and then some mints and chocolates.  I bought some Great British Gardener ribbon from Hobbycraft to finish the gift and I am very pleased with the end result. Of course, you can add your own spin to this gift and include any goodies you like, but I think it looks like a thoughtful, yet very useful present!!!

From the little ones you cant beat a bit of show casing their artistic talents which we all know should be displayed in an art gallery (hmmmm!). My daughter has been busy painting these giant rocks that will hopefully sit pride of place in her grandparents garden.  Its something a little bit different, but bright and colourful and personal too. This is for her Abuelo (grandfather) and she painted it in a Spanish theme!

Hopefully that has given you some ideas and inspiration for Fathers Day and if you have any great finds or ideas then please feel free to share in the comments below!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and see you on Monday for tales from San Francisco!

baby weight loss percentage | Monterey Musings

baby weight loss percentage

We cruised along the Californian coast from San Francisco, to our home for the night which was the beautiful city of Monterey.  We unpacked at the Hilton Monterey, which was a very welcome and luxurious stop. I highly recommend staying here.  We had a quick dip in the outdoor heated pool (which wasnt that warm, so we swam extra fast) and then we made our way to the Old Fishermans Wharf.

The Wharf looks out onto the rugged coastline of California and was scattered with restaurants and gift shops.  It had a real old world feel to it and there were historic buildings around every corner.  We also spotted amazing wildlife from giant pelicans and sea lions to this huge otter just relaxing in the water.

We didnt eat in the Wharf, but we did wander past this sign and I couldnt resist taking a photograph. It seemed like such a welcoming and child-friendly place!!! Though in my humble opinion, I would like to add that I have sat near adults in restaurants who behave worse than any children!

In the morning, we did the 17 mile drive along Pebble Beach.  This is a world famous drive along the coastline and through the areas where the U.S Golf Open Championship is held, so Im told.  My husband is a big fan of golf, whereas I, on the other hand am not.  I was a little dubious about the drive as I thought I may be a bit bored staring at golf greens, but there was alot more to it than that, and the scenery was beautiful.

Unfortunately for us, the weather was a bit murky when we went, but on a sunny day, this place would be amazing to go and have a picnic and explore. We also saw sea lions, hidden coves and beautiful old Cypress trees. There was no rush to drive round and at least every mile was space to pull over and explore the area. Unfortunately, we only had an hour to spend but you could easily spend a day roaming around. We also met this not so little guy who landed on our car.

After our drive, we headed to Monterey Bay Aquarium.  The aquarium has been voted as one of the worlds best.  The setting is beautiful with both inside exhibits and outdoor areas. There were lots of interactive exhibits for the little ones. The aquarium was spotless and the tanks were beyond huge.  My favourite was this huge tank, I couldnt even explain how big it was, with shoals of fish that all swam in the middle and then they would suddenly change direction.  As there were so many of them it looked they were doing a synchronised dance. Its always hard to try and capture the actual atmosphere and beauty in photographs.

We visited on a Sunday, and it was also Memorial weekend, and the aquarium was incredibly busy.  To the point where it was hard to see some of the exhibits which was a shame and I think this hampered our visit a little.  So try and visit in the week and not on a holiday weekend if you can!

We could have spent so much longer in Monterey, but had to leave to get back onto the Pacific Coast Highway. Monterey was very picturesque with lots to do and see.  But for us, it was back on the road, next stop: Santa Barbara.

pregnancy weight loss success | Snack Time at Playgroup

pregnancy weight loss success

An ode to snack time at our local playgroup.

"Its snack time", the nice playgroup lady calls,
As helpers hurriedly tidy away toys and balls,
"Its snack time", echoes around the halls,
"No need to push", "be careful no-one falls".

As little bums rush to their seats,
Some parents begin a hasty retreat.
Anticipation lies heavy in the air,
But be quick, be late to the table only if you dare.

In come the bowls,
In come the cups,
In come the snack plates,
Everything stops.

This is playgroup snack time, so beware,
A bit like stepping inside the lions lair.
How this is the bit I dread,
As the children act like they have never been fed.

Its like watching a pack of baboons,
A scrabble, an elbow,
And then theres that child who continues to bellow.
A push and a shove,
Heavens above.

Some parents are even worse,
They take two biscuits not one,
And my daughters wailing,
She has got none.

Some parents giggle,
Others disappear,
They have got that snack time fear.
But we all know this is no joke,
There is no kindness at the snack table to other folk.
Some faces are red
And a push and a shove too,
From that nice little mum that looks like she wouldnt say "Boo".

Parents wouldnt you have some manners please,
I think you would find better behaviour from fleas.
Children that turn into naughty blighters,
Parents that become expert kung-foo fighters.
No manners,
No love,
Oh no, this my friends is war,
Over a raisin and a cookie, they would knock you to the floor.

Laura Evelyn Bee.

(We love it really).

baby weight loss program | Next stop San Francisco

baby weight loss program

The three of us arrived in San Francisco slightly the worse for wear, oh wait, that was just me, and Ill tell you more about that little drama next week. But, for the sake of this post, lets just pretend we are all bright eyed and bushy tailed as we disembarked the plane, caught an Uber (which was alot cheaper than hailing a cab), and made our way to Hotel Del Sol, our base for the next three nights.

Hotel Del Sol was a good base for our travels and was in a fantastic location.  It was pretty basic, but it was clean and we got breakfast too, so for the amount of time we actually spent there it suited us fine.

My husband has been to San Francisco alot with his job, so it was quite nice to let him take the lead and show us the sights.  On the first day we started with the most DELICIOUS waffles at a place called Home Plate. The service was amazing, it had high-chairs and was child friendly, and I didnt stop waffling on about the food for the reminder of our trip!

With very full bellies, we wandered along the seafront and I got my first glimpse of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

We carried on wandering along and walked to Pier 39. This was by far one of my favourite places.  Yes, it is very touristy, but, I didnt think it was in your face or trashy like some tourist areas can be.  From the pier you could watch the sea lions bask in the sun, and who quite frankly, I could have watched all day.

Also dotted along the pier were little shops, a giant carousel and restaurants.  We stopped for lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp.  Again, I was a bit worried that we may have chosen somewhere a bit too touristy, but the food was delicious and fresh and we had the most amazing view looking out to Alcatraz. If you have never heard of it, Bubba Gump Shrimp is a themed restaurant based on Forrest Gump, so theres lots of film memorabilia, and the waitress even tested our knowledge on the film!

Also on the pier was the Aquarium of the Bay.  It was a lovely aquarium and whilst it wasnt huge it is definitely worth a visit. We saw everything from jellyfish to sharks and my daughter adored the touch pool where she touched a starfish and manta-ray.

On day two we had a lovely day trip to Sausalito which is a beautiful sea front city over the Golden Gate Bridge.  Most people tend to bike across the Golden Gate Bridge and then catch one of the many ferries back, but we went for the easy option and went by bus. It was lovely to wander along the winding streets with an ice-cream in hand.

We stumbled across a little gem on the Friday night and found a huge food festival called Off the Grid.  It runs every Friday night at the Fort Mason Center and there was every kind of gourmet food imaginable.  There was also drinks and cocktails and live music.  We arrived around 6pm and it was really child friendly and a lovely place to go and eat.  I recommend the truck that sells curry (and they kindly replaced my poppadom when it blew away!!) and the ice-cream tacos were out of this world.  My daughter had a taste of everything then did some dancing...apparently she is quite a fan of funk!

And so came the sad time to wave goodbye to San Francisco. I cannot recommend visiting this wonderful city enough. There is so much to do there that I think we could have spent another week exploring.  But, alas, our travels were to continue on Route 1, the Pacific Highway.  We packed our bags and picked up a hire car as we began our journey along the West coast.  Next stop...Monterey.

Thanks so much for reading and have you ever been to San Francisco? I would love to hear any tips or recommendations in the comments below!
