weight loss on pregnancy | Potty Training What you need to know

weight loss on pregnancy

Summer is now officially here and that can only mean one thing for parents with toddlers...potty training!!!!! Out with those nappies and in with naked bottoms dashing around the garden, with mums and dads waving the potty manically, sporadically and above all enthusiastically!  Its a fact that the sale of potties triples in the Summer as does the sale of sticker charts and chocolate bribes (well I actually made that up, but Im sure if tested this hypothesis would be true!).

I wrote a blog post, The Potty Training One, where I wrote a diary about our week of potty training. This is a no holes barred honest version of the highs and lows of having a nappy free toddler, oh yes, and the pit falls of having a dog in tow too (trust me, this complicates things!!).

I also wrote a post about the pieces of kit I think you need to start your potty training adventure (!) and a portable potty that fits in your bag that I think is the best thing ever, the Potty To Go.

And armed with all of that information is all I think you need.  Dont listen to that woman down the post office who potty trained her child at 1 year (she didnt), or that lovely relative who kindly informs you that you are delaying your 18 month by not potty training them, and this could well affect their future career (it wont).  Potty training needs to be done when YOUR child is ready.  When they are showing an interest in the toilet, knowing whether they are wet or dry, and having an awareness of wanting to go to the toilet too.

Oh, and YOU need to be ready.  Dont do potty training when you have a really busy week at work, when you are having the house redecorated or your in-laws are staying with you for the week! I mean, come on, that is just asking for trouble!

Potty training is fine, honestly.  Remember when you freaked out about weaning, then once you did it, you wondered why you ever thought your son or daughter would still be living off milk at 32? Yup, well this is just the same.  Forget all the horror stories and if you and your little are ready then just go for it!

Good luck to all wannabe potty trainers and thanks for reading,

pregnancy weight loss tricks | Why you dont need a new you this new year

pregnancy weight loss tricks

Happy New Year 2015!!! I feel I might be going a little against the grain with todays blog post.  I have a feeling this blog is going to be against a tirade of others with tips for a healthy and happier new year and new you. Maybe I am still in a state of mild fever, or maybe not.  But whichever way, I am writing today about how the new year doesnt and shouldnt mean a completely new you.

And its everywhere at the moment: New Year, New You. Theres the latest juicers, blenders, yoga equipment and DVDs which promise us we will lose 50lbs in 50 minutes.  You need to be fitter, slimmer, happier and younger looking in 2015.  Out with the old and in with the new. Now Im all up for self improvement, dont get me wrong. But, if I see another celebrity parading their newly acquired abs in my face, I may just have to go and stick my head in the Roses barrel and not emerge for a good week.  I mean, abs, really? The week after Christmas? At least give it a few weeks to give us mere mortals the chance to shift the extra layer of fat, that is of course essential for survival of the UK winter.

I think its great to be healthy, be fit, do more and set goals...but there is that small matter of also being happy too.  And alot of that starts with loving yourself.  What if you dont need a brand new you at all for the new year? What if you are pretty gorgeous and amazing just as you are? What if all you actually need is a bit of a tweak here and there? (I mean, no offence, I think we could all benefit with little tweaks here and there...whilst you are amazing, no-ones perfect :-) ).

This vision of a slimmer, fitter, better dressed version of ourselves is great and all that.  But its also kind of misleading. It makes us aspire to this goal, that, well, it doesnt really exist. Life isnt perfect, and neither are we.  And somewhere along the line, you have to accept and love that person staring back at you in the mirror.

I really wish we could all see ourselves through the eyes of others. I bet you a million pounds someone thinks your are the funniest, the brainiest, have the best hair or the best legs.  I have a lovely group of friends, and one of the girls has the most amazing body. She is like a little mean machine with sculpted arms and a stomach to skip the biscuit barrel for. But can she see it? No, no she cant. She instead, envies my other friends lovely long legs.  And can that friend see she has lovely long legs? No, no she cant.  She is too busy moaning about her hair and wanting to swap it for mine. And can I see how she sees my hair? Nope. I see a birds nest or focus on my very dark roots when I look in the mirror.  Other people seem to see past our flaws and just see all the other lovely bits.  Why cant we see that ourselves?

So, if you are planning a run tonight. Go for it.  If you are planning on getting into that Yogi trance and standing like a tree later, then good on you (and good luck).  But as well as prancing round your front room to whichever celebrity DVD you have bought (you didnt really fall for the 50lbs in 50 minutes did you?), try and love yourself that little bit more in 2015 too.  You really dont need a completely new you this year.  Make whatever little changes you want to.  Have your resolutions, but then dont beat yourself up about things.  Life really is too short.  And you are pretty damn great and amazing. Just as you are.

"Maybe the reason nothing seems to be "fixing you" is because youre not broken. Let today be the day you stop living within the confines of how others define or judge you. You have a unique beauty and purpose; live accordingly", Dr Steve Maraboli.

pregnancy weight loss time | An epiphany a sales haul

pregnancy weight loss time

I love a little mooch around the sales.  Whilst normally I never seem to find that much and end up buying stuff that full price, this year I found a few little beauties that I thought I would share with you. And who hasnt missed my dodgy posing whilst trying to show you some clothes? Oh, thatll be no-one then.  Well, in actual fact I have had an epiphany. I have given up trying to look at all cool in my outfit photos.  I cannot compete with the other gorgeous bloggers who bounce their way along the street with the sunlight shining in their hair and their new skirt flowing.  So Im not even going to try.

I tend to take my photos with my camera precariously balanced on some books and whilst simultaneously trying to nudge my daughter and dog out of the way.  And another valuable lesson I have learnt. Take a picture on the day when you are ACTUALLY wearing the outfit, instead of rushing around like an idiot getting changed from your very comfy pjs one afternoon because you just realised you needed to take an outfit picture!! Who said blogging was easy eh?! But, on to my sales picks which is what you here for, and pictures of the items...with a few funny ones thrown in. :-)

Starting with Topshop. I picked up this black blouse with a gorgeous jewelled collar. I am a bit like a magpie with anything shiny at the moment. Its short sleeved and is a little cropped so I do tend to wear a black cami underneath. The shirt is still available on Topshops website here.

Didnt quite manage to get Baba out of shot.

"I am just so happy".

Who knows what I am doing here. Appears to be head, shoulders, knees and toes, but your guess is as good as mine.

I also picked up this jacket that Ive had my eye on for ages.  My husband thinks these jackets make me look like an extra from Flash Gordon, but I just love them.  I also adore stripes, so this one was definitely coming home with me.  I think I will wear this ALOT when the weather gets that bit warmer.

I couldnt find the exact one on Topshops website, but they have this and this and if you went in-store I bet you would find it.

We also picked up some lovely plates from Marks and Spencers in the sales. We chose this 12 piece dinner set which are white and then black to the underneath.  We bought a few extra bowls in the same design too. I think there was a chip in nearly all of the plates we owned which was a bit embarrassing when we had friends over for dinner the other week. Hopefully these can last a week without me chipping any. Its doubtful.

You can find the set here and they have some individual plates here. And on the topic of my finely tuned skill of chipping most plates, this extends to glasses too, so we picked up some very thick ones from T K Maxx.

They were £4.99 for three and then we bought an extra one individually for £2.99.  I found it a bit bizarre that they would sell them in packs of three, but anyway. They look like you need to take a sledge hammer to break them, so again, lets hope they make it past January in my very safe, or not so safe hands.

Did you make it to the sales? Any amazing finds you would like to share?
Thanks for reading and wishing you all a lovely weekend,

pregnancy weight loss transformations | The Happiness Project

pregnancy weight loss transformations

There arent many books that I can say have changed my life.  I dont mean anything drastic, like a book I had in my pocket stopped a bullet or prevented my imminent death from a lion. But I mean a book that has resonated so much with me, that I reflect on its words years and years later.  A book that I pull off the shelf and delve into when I am need of some inspiration or a pick-me-up. This is how I feel about The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.  As January is the time where there seems to be an overwhelming urge to reflect on our lives, on our years and happiness, I thought this would be a good time to share with you the book that I would recommend to get on your book shelf, or your kindle, well, right now.

First off, its not your typical read.  This is an account by  a lady called Gretchen Rubin on her happiness project to, well, be more happier. Now secondly, this isnt a self help book where by you have to do weird activities like chant at the moon or go and sing to your neighbours dog. This is Gretchens story about the things she tried to do to make her appreciate the things she felt she wasnt appreciating enough.  To try and fight-right in her marriage and boost her own well being.  The brilliant thing about this book is that Gretchen is just like you or me. She doesnt write her account balancing in a tree on a remote island. She hasnt overcome adversity or is struggling with a life limiting illness. And this is what makes the book completely relatable.

Gretchen embarks on a 12 month happiness project and each month she dedicates her month to trying to change and improve little things in her life, like boosting her energy, her marriage and being a parent. But dont think this book is just for parents.  I first bought this book many years ago before I had even had my daughter, and its words resonated with me back then just as much as they do now.

Her journey is documented in a way that really reflects everyday life. Rubin makes such accurate comments on life and how we think. She observes that, "the days are long, but the years are short". And how often do you want to hurry your day along and then all of a sudden a week has passed and you are yearning for the years to go slower? She also shows that it isnt all walks in the park, and I find her chapter on love and learning to fight right with her husband so accurate and true.

I find this book just so inspiring, and I find myself going back to it at certain times in my life, whether that be if Im feeling down, if Im spending way too much time nagging at my husband or if I just feel like Im taking things for granted.  A quick dip into this book and I feel that it sort of gives me a little wake up call and off I go again.

I recently wrote about how everyone talks about a New Year and a New You (you can read that here), and this book really isnt about finding a new you. Its about being appreciative, making small changes and really living the life that you have, right here and right now. The majority of us have in our lives all the love and material things we could possibly wish for, its just a case of seeing it all, like Gretchen reflects in the book

"I found the ruby slippers had been on my feet all along".

Have you read this book? What did you think? Would you read it now? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
Thank you so much for reading,

timeline of pregnancy weight loss | Money for nothing why you need TopCashback

timeline of pregnancy weight loss

I thought everyone knew about cash back sites and how they work, but after speaking to my Dad recently who was oblivious to these sites, I thought I would do a quick blog post about them, because they are amazing!!! Also I should put a little disclaimer, this is not a sponsored post...Im just sharing a site that I genuinely think is fantastic!

First of all, when someone says you can earn money, you immediately think that you need to deliver 5,000 pamphlets, or make some sales calls.  But, earning cash on your online purchases is literally a way of retailers trying to get your business by offering cash back on purchases.  There are a few top cash back sites to choose from, but my favourite, and one that Ive used for several years now is TopCashback.

All you have to do is sign up to TopCashback and fill in a few of your details, and then you are all set.  So, lets say for instance you want to buy a new perfume from Boots. You log in to your TopCashback account, search for Boots in their retailer search box, and then the website automatically takes you to the Boots website where you purchase your perfume as you would normally do.  You dont pay any differently, you still use your Boots account. All that has happened is by clicking on TopCashback first, they have logged your visit, and then you get a small percentage when your order goes through.

The current cash back on Boots fragrance is 5%, so if your perfume was £50, thats £2.50 youve earned. This money gets put into your account once the sale has been completed. You can then have the money put into your bank account. It really is that simple.

Not all online shops are on the site, but its always worth checking. They have shops, insurance, travel, hotels. Last month, I earned £8 for booking a train and £40 for making a Hilton hotel booking.  Not bad simply for going through another website first.  There are always different deals on, so some weeks you can earn a higher percentage of cash back.

Now its not hundreds of pounds that you earn each time, but it certainly adds up, and you are getting money for just buying what you were going to buy anyway.  Its such a good idea, and retailers benefit from these sites, because if they offer higher cash back than competitors, then you are more likely to order your purchases from them.

Its really simple to use and the website is simple to understand.  And getting paid to do your shopping? What better bonus is there?
Youre welcome :-)

weight loss on early pregnancy | Pregnancy Blog Week 23

weight loss on early pregnancy

This is the week that panic mode has set in.  For some reason, I now feel the need to get EVERYTHING ready for baby...even though I have at least another 16 weeks left.  I have a very very long to do list in my head, which involves random things like scrubbing all kitchen cupboards (which is of course essential for bringing a new baby home) and more realistic things like decorating the nursery and buying baby gros.

My parents came to visit this week and were met with a house in utter chaos as I was attempting to empty the old nursery of clutter and bits and bobs, so I could begin to strip the walls and paint.  But, as is the rule with tidying up, I couldnt just clear the clutter out.  Because then some of the things needed to go in other rooms, and then for it to go in other rooms I had to sort those other rooms out too to make space...and so on and so forth.  I ended up clearing my whole wardrobe, my daughters wardrobe and the office on top of the nursery.  Phew!

But enough about my madness of preparing for baby, and onto pregnancy things.  At the start of the week I was feeling really tired, and one night I was in bed for 8pm. I was completely exhausted, but I could still hear my daughter singing away in her bedroom so my three year old was up later than me!!! I also have had pains around my lower back and on top of one of my thighs.  However, for the last few days Ive felt loads better and have had much more energy.

The yoga class that Ive previously mentioned...I still havent been, but Im going next week so will update you as to how I get on.  Baby has been very active and my daughter even put her hand on my tummy and I explained to her it was her baby brother or sister kicking! She had a huge smile on her face, so that was a really special moment.

My bump is getting big now and I keep knocking it when Im trying to wash up or lean over things. I also cant see the underside of it now unless I really crane my neck! My belly button is definitely getting shallower too, so all in all lots of bump growth!

I feel like this pregnancy is going really quickly this time round, and I wonder if that is why Im eager to get everything sorted.  Its one of those strange facts that things you want to really last go by so so quickly, but hey, I guess thats life, and Im just enjoying every day of this special pregnancy.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely weekend,

dr oz pregnancy weight lose | A Meditation On Murder by Robert Thorogood A review

dr oz pregnancy weight lose

I was very kindly sent the book, A Meditation On Murder, by Mumsnet bloggers to review. For the first time, as I unwrapped my brand new book, my heart sank.  The books characters are based on the hit TV series, Death in Paradise, and this brand new story is written by the shows creator, Robert Thorogood. I can vaguely remember the TV series on the BBC, but I never, ever watched it as I didnt think it really appealed to me.  So, when I looked down at my shiny new book I thought this time, Id have to write a bad review. The last few murder novels Ive read have involved alot of violence, very creepy killers and a very fast paced plot. Would a book about a detective in a wool suit and a murder on a tropical island even hold my attention to finish reading it? YES, YES and YES!!!!!

I dont think I could have been more wrong about this novel.  It is such an amazing read. Thorogood is clearly a very talented writer and I was hooked after the very first page. Just who had killed Aslan Kennedy in a locked room with only five other people in it?

I loved the characters and even though Id never watched the TV series, the characters were brought to life. The writer beautifully entwines the murder plot and the idiosyncrasies of the characters, and I literally couldnt put the book down. There certainly wasnt the violence and the swearing and gore of my recent murder book reads, but that really didnt matter. This book held my attention and kept me turning the pages without all of that.  The plot twists and turns, and the moment you think youve worked it all out, is the very moment Thorogood completely changes the way the story is going.

This book is a must Summer read.  If you loved the TV series you will love this book. But, similarly, if you werent even interested in the TV series or never watched it, you will love this book. Very cleverly written, comical, and a page turner. You wont be able to put this book down until you find out exactly what went on in that locked room...and it really wont be what you imagined.
