pregnancy weight loss exercise plan | TRICLOSAN CAN CAUSE FERTILITY PROBLEMS

pregnancy weight loss exercise plan

Hand Sanitizers May Hurt Fertility

I talk in my book about how you should avoid some hand sanitizers if you are trying to conceive - especially those with triclosan. Triclosan can be quite dangerous and it is in a number of consumer products, not just hand sanitizers. Please read the labels and do your research! I was surprised to find out that triclosan isnt just a hormone disruptor, its also a carcinogen. Yikes!

From the article:

The EPA considers triclosan a high risk for human health and the environment. When introduced in 1972, triclosan was confined to health care settings in a surgical scrub.1-4

Triclosan may not be a familiar term to most consumers, though it is now ubiquitous in most American households, masquerading under the unassuming term, "antimicrobial." In the United States, "antimicrobial" has become synonymous with cleanliness and good health.

See Also:   Environmental Toxins and Your Fertility (www.getpregnantover40.com)

The chemical industry has fostered a fear of germs among American consumers and developed a lucrative market selling products designed to protect us from germs. The EPA estimates sales of antimicrobial products now constitute a billion dollar per year industry...

...The chemical structure of triclosan resembles certain estrogens. One study on a species of Japanese fish did not indicate any estrogenic effects, but found androgenic effects resulting in changes in fin length and sex ratios.2

Triclosan is lipophilic, attaching to fatty tissue. It can accumulate in the liver, lungs, and kidneys, reaching toxic levels. As a chlorophenol, it is categorized as a persistent organic pollutant, along with dioxins and PCBs. These chemicals persist in the environment and bioaccumulate up the food chain. Being at the top of the food chain, humans harbor the most concentrated amounts of these toxic chemicals.2-4

Triclosans use is already so widespread it has made its way into the human body. Studies show triclosan residues in the umbilical cord blood of infants and in the breast milk of nursing mothers.9 Triclosan has not been thoroughly tested nor evaluated for potential risks to human health and the
environment though it is in a category of very toxic and carcinogenic chemicals. It is chemically similar to Agent Orange.

weight loss during pregnancy last month | PREGNANT NATURALLY AT 53 WHILE ON PILL

weight loss during pregnancy last month

Im always amazed at the number of women who not only get pregnant over 40 naturally, but also women who get pregnant over 50 naturally.  What makes this case remarkable is  the woman in the story got pregnant by surprise at the age of 53, and she was on the pill at the time.  She also admits to a "once in a blue moon" love life!  What are the odds of that?  Her pregnancy had a fairytale ending too.  She carried to term and had a healthy baby after a natural delivery.
_____________

SEE ALSO: 49 AND PREGNANT (getpregnantover40.com)

_____________

At the time of her pregnancy she also had two grandchildren from her two grown kids.  After delivering her baby, she said her motherly instinct kicked in right a way and her age just was not a factor (except to the doctors who, when finding out her age, automatically assumed she had donor eggs!)

The article also mentions a few other women who had natural pregnancies in their 50s including one at 59 and one at 55!  Researchers from Israel’s Hadassah University Hospital reported at a major European fertility conference that there may be a genetic combination in some women which can  slow aging of the ovaries and protect against cellular damage making older age pregnancies more likely.

baby weight loss and gain after birth | GLUTEN INFERTILITY AND MISCARRIAGE

baby weight loss and gain after birth

Gluten May Affect Some Womens Fertility

I keep hearing more and more about how gluten may be the culprit behind infertility and miscarriage.

Here is an article that explain what gluten is and how it can wreak havoc on your digestive system.

Celiac disease, and gluten intolerance are both known to be important causes of infertility and miscarriage which can easily be remedied by a gluten free diet. Celiac disease can be tested for with a blood test which is relatively accurate as long as you have been consuming gluten regularly in the month or so before the test day. As soon as you cut gluten out of your diet, the volume of of anti-gluten antibodies that your body produces drops, which can make the test misleading.

See Also My Series on Foods For Fertility (www.getpregnantover40.com)

Many women are sensitive to gluten containing grains, but do not have an autoimmune reaction to gluten making testing even more tricky. Gluten sensitivity testing can be expensive and is not usually covered by health insurance. Many women simply decide to try a month or two on a strict gluten free diet to see how they feel. Many times they are pleasantly surprised by both how easy - and enjoyable - a gluten free diet can be, and by how good they feel often in unexpected ways...

Recently one of my fe
rtility coaching clients relayed how she had had a series of unfortunate miscarriages - all preceded by uterine growth retardation - and yet had also had one successful pregnancy which she carried to term. When I raised the issue of celiac testing (uterine growth restriction is common in celiac pregnancies) it turned out that this one miraculous pregnancy was conceived - and carried - during a period on a gluten free diet pursued as a health kick. Gluten can be a powerful saboteur of fertility and fertility can quickly return when it is removed.

baby weight loss causes | HEAVY EXERCISE SHOWN TO CAUSE FERTILITY PROBLEMS

Workouts May Hurt Fertility

Ive posted before about the association between vigorous exercise and infertility or delayed fertility.  With Halloween over and more holiday eating just ahead, women may feel the need to workout more to counterbalance all of the additional calories.
Here is an article about a study which confirms that exercises such as running or aerobics may reduce the chances of a woman getting pregnant.  The article also mentions that it may be harder for a fertilized egg to implant if a woman is too active.  Read more:

SEE ALSO: HOW STRESS CAN CAUSE MISCARRIAGE AND FERTILITY PROBLEMS (Getpregnantover40.com)

The researchers found that moderate exercise, such as walking, cycling or gardening, was associated with getting pregnant more quickly for all women, regardless of weight.
Women who spent more than five hours per week doing moderate exercise were 18 percent more likely to become pregnant during any given menstrual cycle than women who performed moderate exercise for less than an hour each week.
However, normal-weight and very lean women who reported high levels of vigorous exercise, such as running or aerobics, took longer to get pregnant. Those who exercised vigorously for more than five hours each week had a 32 percent lower chance of becoming pregnant during a given cycle than women who did not exercise vigorously at all...

... Having too little body fat may be a factor for some women, and its known that competitive female athletes and very underweight women sometimes experience menstrual irregularities.
Exercise may also affect the fertilized eggs ability to implant in the uterus. One previous study of women undergoing in vitro fertilization found a higher risk of implantation failure among women who did a lot of running or cycling.

baby lose weight during growth spurt | D C MAY CAUSE SCARRING ASHERMANS SYNDROME

baby lose weight during growth spurt

Trying To Get Pregnant Naturally?  A D&C May Cause Scarring and Affect Fertility

Ever heard of Ashermans syndrome? It can be caused by a previous D & C which can be done for a number of reasons from heavy bleeding to an incomplete miscarriage.

SEE ALSO: DO YOU NEED A D&C AFTER MISCARIAGE? (Getpregnantover40.com)

I recall being advised to have a D & C after one of my miscarriages. I didnt want to because I didnt really want any sharp instruments inside my one and only uterus, but I wound up having it anyway because it appeared that the pregnancy tissue was still growing even though there was no heartbeat and the fetus wasnt viable. Here is more information about how adhesions can affect your fertility:

From the article:

Ashermans syndrome is a type of adhesion - where bands of scar-like tissue form inside the body between two surfaces, causing them to stick together. Adhesions are a common problem, affecting 93 per cent of patients who undergo surgery.

All the abdominal and pelvic organs - which are most susceptible to adhesions - are wrapped together in a clear membrane, the peritoneum. When this is traumatised either by infection or surgery, it triggers an inflammatory response, stimulating the growth of fibrous scar tissue. Ashermans is the term given to adhesions in the womb.

The problem is triggered by a dilation and curettage (D&C), a standard procedure used to clear the womb after a miscarriage, or when the placenta is retained after childbirth or a termination, says Adrian Lower, a consultant gynaecologist and one of only a handful of Ashermans specialists in the UK.

An ultrasound revealed parts of the placenta had embedded into Sophies womb. Left untreated, it could lead to serious infection

He says: During the procedure, a spoon-shaped instrument [a curette] is used to scrape the uterus lining.

Its thought that Ashermans occurs when this is done too forcefully, he says. Around 100,000 procedures are carried out each year, with five per cent resulting in Ashermans.

weight loss ketones pregnancy | HOW CHROMOSOMES CAUSE MISCARRIAGE

weight loss ketones pregnancy

Explanation of How Chromosomal Abnormalities Result In Miscarriage

Miscarriage and Recurrent Miscarriage

Wow... the more I read articles like this one, the more I realize how much of getting pregnant and staying pregnant involves luck.
My site:  www.getpregnantover40.com
The study mentioned below looked at egg formation and the arrangement of chromosomes. It isnt a perfect process and getting the right number of chromosomes almost seems like a "hit and miss" process. Read more:

During meiosis, fibres called microtubules attach themselves to the centre (kinetochore) of the chromosomes. The microtubules act like fishing lines and once a chromosome is caught it is pulled to the opposite side of the cell from its partner.

But, before the microtubules hook the chromosomes, the researchers noticed that they herd them together into the centre of the cell. Despite this repositioning, almost 90 per cent of chromosomes were let off the hook only to be re-caught.

See Also: Miscarriage Over 40 (www.getpregnantover40.com)

"We saw that they [the microtubules] have to go through several tries before getting the connection right," says Ellenberg.
Third time lucky

In fact, some chromosomes were released up to six times, though most averaged three. Ellenberg says this means that the pathway that corrects the errors by uncoupling the chromosome and the microtubule is therefore heavily used and thus more prone to making mistakes — resulting in too few or too many chromosomes in the egg.

"Our findings provide a plausible explanation for the high rate of errors during egg formation."

Ellenberg adds that their observations make error correction proteins good candidates for age-related infertility.

"They form the basis to focus our future work on age-related female infertility, as it seems very likely that a component of the pathway that corrects these errors will be involved. The individual proteins that make up the machinery to correct the errors may simply not have a sufficiently long life-span to function well in very old oocytes," he says.

kim pregnancy weight loss | UNEXPLAINED INFERTILITY WE DONT KNOW

kim pregnancy weight loss

The expression "unexplained infertilty" means that the medical community has no idea why youre not getting pregnant.
If youre trying to conceive over 40, your age is a neat a tidy "explanation" for your failure to conceive or an explanation of recurrent miscarriage.

Unexplained Infertility Means The Doctors Have No Idea Why Youre Not Getting Pregnant

How did I deal with this? Well in an odd sort of way, part of my motivation to get pregnant naturally came from these "naysaying" doctors. I was going to prove them wrong.

How Dare You Tell Me Im Too Old To Have A Baby!

I would frequently think to myself, "How dare you tell me Im too old to have a baby --- you just wait - you dont know who youre dealing with". Nobody actually came right out and said I was too old, but the message was there.

Its funny, but when I did finally succeed, one of the doctors who was quite negative about my chances of getting pregnant was bouncing off the walls with excitement. I think they really do want you to succeed and as more of us do, perhaps their attitudes toward older women will change.  You have to realize that Reproductive Endocrinologists (or fertility doctors) see the worst cases, they approach each couple with pessimism.

Unexplained Infertility May Not Exist

Here is an article about how the diagnosis of unexplained infertility may actually not exist...it mentions that perhaps it should be changed to "undiagnosed infertility". Read more:

SEE ALSO: GET PREGNANT NATURALLY (getpregnantover40.com)

Conclusions

We have presented evidence that the non-diagnosis of UI is, at best, highly subjective and inaccurate and, at worst, non-existent. Indeed, were it to be preserved, one would, at a minimum, have to accept the notion that a diagnosis of UI always has to be seen as provisional and subject to revisions. Any serious attempt to improve the didactic terminology in the field of reproductive medicine, would, however, suggest that there is no longer a place for such a diagnostic entity. A better effort should be undertaken to develop reliable tools to diagnose, hitherto often undiagnosed, conditions of endometriosis, tubal disease, premature ovarian ageing and immunological infertility, which are often misdiagnosed for UI. Diagnostic terminology should be based on evidentiary diagnostic findings and not on their absence.

Even the best, and most accurate, diagnostic approach will leave some patients without a specific diagnosis. We would argue that such patients should be considered ‘undiagnosed‘, rather than have a formal diagnosis of UI attached to them. After all, they do not have a diagnosis!

pregnancy weight loss exercises | PCOS MAY MAKE WOMEN FERTILE LONGER

pregnancy weight loss exercises

Ovaries of Women With PCOS Are Active At Older Age

Youve probably already heard of PCOS by now (polycystic ovarian syndrome) which can lead to infertility.
There are ways to overcome PCOS naturally with diet and the right nutrients.
The good news is, according to this article, many women with this disorder eventually conceive with and without help. The other bit of good news is they may be fertile longer. Read more:

About 7 per cent of reproductive-age women have PCOS, which features irregular periods, high levels of male hormones and greater numbers of developing follicles, or cysts, on the surface of their ovaries. In a normal ovary, a few follicles appear each month, one or two of which mature and release an egg; the rest die off. Women with PCOS ovulate less often because their extra follicles interfere with normal hormonal activity and stop follicles maturing past a certain stage. This is how PCOS lowers fertility.
_____________

SEE ALSO: INOSITOL FOR PCOS AND EGG QUALITY (getpregnantover40.com)
_____________

Now it looks like that is not the end of the story. Miriam Hudecova and colleagues at Uppsala University in Sweden interviewed 91 women who were 35 or older and had been diagnosed with PCOS when younger. They found the women had undergone just as many pregnancies and borne as many babies, on average, as PCOS-free women of the same age. Some of the women with PCOS had been treated for infertility, but more than two-thirds had become pregnant without such help.

Hudecova also examined most of the women and found that the ovaries of the older women with PCOS showed signs of being more active, with better hormone levels and more eggs available, than those of control women of the same age (Human Reproduction, DOI: 10.1093/humrep/den482). "As they get older, the chance of getting pregnant may actually be higher," says Hudecova.

post baby weight loss how long | CAN VARICOCELE CAUSE INFERTILITY IN MEN

post baby weight loss how long

Varicocele Explained

Most people arent familiar with the term "varicocele", however, according to the article below, it can be a very common cause for infertility in men.
Here is a good article which explains what a varicocele is as well as other causes of infertility or subfertility in men:

SEE ALSO: MALE FACTOR INFERTILITY AND INCREASING SPERM COUNT NATURALLY (getpregnantover40.com)

Myth 3. Varicoceles dont cause infertility
The most common cause of male infertility is varicocele. A varicocele is an abnormal dilation of the pampiniform plexus of the internal spermatic vein and is typically identified on the left side. This condition has been found to be a contributing factor in up to 40% of cases of primary and up to 80% of cases of secondary male subfertility. Varicoceles have also been identified in up to 15% of the general population (14).

In the healthy state, the intratesticular temperature is maintained at several degrees below body temperature by means of a countercurrent temperature system. The spermatic arteries are surrounded by the multiple veins of the pampiniform plexus. The warm arterial blood is cooled by convection from these veins. Varicoceles are thought to increase the intratesticular temperature through the loss of venous valvular function. This leads to pooling of the warm blood in the testis, thus causing altered spermatogenesis, Leydigs cell dysfunction, and subsequent infertility (15).

Diagnosis and treatment
Diagnosis of a clinical varicocele is usually made by physical examination, with or without the aid of Doppler ultrasound. Diagnosis and treatment of subclinical varicoceles (those identifiable only by radiographic means) remain controversial (16). Several operative and nonoperative treatment options are available. Nonoperative therapy includes transvenous ablation with use of thrombotic agents (17). Traditionally, surgical repair of a varicocele is performed by an inguinal (18), a retroperitoneal (19), or a subinguinal approach (20).

The primary indications for treatment of a varicocele are (1) male subfertility, usually detected by abnormal findings on seminal fluid analysis, although abnormal function or morphology may be the only evident factor; (2) adolescent testicular growth retardation that is persistent during a 6-month observation period; and (3) intractable pain that is not attributable to other intrascrotal causes. Although some controversy remains about the utility and effectiveness of repairing varicoceles, most investigators agree that treating a varix in a subfertile male improves seminal parameters and yields higher pregnancy rates than does no treatment (21).

It was originally reported that varix size did not affect the improvement seen postoperatively (22), but more recent reports have contradicted this finding (23). Furthermore, in two studies (24,25), morphology of the sperm as judged by Krugers criteria (26) was increased by varicocele repair.

Myth 4. Its cheaper to proceed directly to assisted reproductive techniques
In a study of treatment costs, Comhaire (27) examined the cost per delivered baby for various treatments of subfertility. Varicocele repair was found to be the least expensive option ($1,700 per delivery), as compared with intrauterine insemination (IUI; $2,566 per delivery) and IVF ($11,667 per delivery with intracytoplasmic sperm injection [ICSI] and $18,333 without).

weight loss journey during pregnancy | LUTEAL PHASE DEFECT AND VITAMIN C

weight loss journey during pregnancy

Luteal Phase Defect and Vitamin C

I have always associated vitamin C with the immune system.
This article, however talks about how vitamin C may also play a role in regulating hormones which may hep with conditions like luteal phase defect.  Luteal phase defect is when your hormones fall too fast in the second half of your cycle.

SEE ALSO: FOODS FOR FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)

From the article:

A number of factors can cause luteal phase defect. Recent findings have suggested that oxidative damage may play a role, and antioxidant levels, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and glutathione, were found to be significantly lower in women with luteal phase defect and recurrent miscarriages than in healthy women. The potential benefits of antioxidant vitamin supplementation have not been previously explored.

One hundred fifty women with luteal phase defect seeking medical attention for infertility were enrolled in the current study. Levels of estrogen and progesterone were monitored for three menstrual cycles. The participants were randomly assigned to receive 750 mg of vitamin C per day or no treatment beginning at the onset of the third cycle of the study. During the third cycle, progesterone levels increased significantly in women receiving vitamin C but did not change in women receiving no treatment. Estrogen levels also increased in the treatment group but not the untreated group. Moreover, there was a significantly higher pregnancy rate in the vitamin C group than in the untreated group: 25% of the women receiving vitamin C became pregnant within six months of starting treatment, while only 11% of untreated women became pregnant in the same time period.

pregnancy weight loss in hospital | PALMISTRY AND MENS FERTILITY

pregnancy weight loss in hospital

Trying To Conceive Over 40, Palmistry May Give Clues About Hormones

Im not at all familiar with "palmstry", but Ive never been afraid to expand my horizons!
Whether youre a believer or not, its certainly interesting. Here is an article on how palmistry may be able to predict male fertility. Read more:

From the article:

SEE ALSO: NATURAL WAYS TO IMPROVE MENS FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)

The Ring Finger

The biggest sign of infertility problems in males detected through palmistry is a long fourth (ring) finger. The longer the ring finger, the higher a males testosterone levels tend to be. Increased testosterone makes males more aggressive and sexually assertive in general, so a short ring finger can be a sign that a man may not have the correct hormone levels to increase conception odds.

Line of Affection

The Line of Affection is a line that appears on the palm underneath the pinky and ring fingers. Lines that come off the top of the Line of Affection vertically supposedly represent the number of children that will be born. If a male doesnt have lines off the Line of Affection, this is considered a possible sign of infertility.

Other Signs

The condition of the hand and palm can provide other signs that point to a male fertility problem. If the hand is bluish in color, for example, this may point to poor circulation related to another condition that may affect fertility. Similarly, the color and condition of the nails represent a plethora of health conditions, such as respiratory illness, that make being able to conceive more difficult. Certain genetic conditions that may affect fertility such as Down syndrome are revealed by characteristic fingerprint swirls and a single transverse line across the palm
